ICD’s Resource Management and Policy Coordination Division (ICDRM) has an opening for Economist/Sr. Economist, which can be either a fungible or specialist economist. This position provides the unique opportunity to deliver core ICD training and macroeconomic frameworks TA, while contributing significantly to overall departmental planning and CD delivery policies, in close consultation with ICD’s front office. The position provides exposure to all aspects of ICD delivery, from policy and workplan formulation both across the department and with other departments, external financing, monitoring execution, to delivery itself. The position requires excellent judgement, a strong drive for results, innovative problem solving, and an ability to work with diverse career streams.

The selected candidate will devote roughly half of their time to RM tasks, which comprise working with ICD divisions to plan and monitor ICD CD delivery, drafting and negotiating departmental CD delivery policies, providing support and oversight to ICD long term experts in the field, and serving as the primary liaison with area departments for ICD’s delivery work. The work involves close interaction with ICD’s Deputy Director in charge of ICD’s CD delivery and regular reporting to the front office and senior staff.

The other half of the selected candidate’s time will be spent on CD delivery (i.e., ICD training and/or technical assistance on developing macroeconomic frameworks, depending on the selected candidate’s expertise and interests), in consultation with RM management. The selected candidate will also be able to deepen her/his expertise in subject matter related ICD training and TA through analytical work.

Qualifications

Advanced degree in economics or related field combined with at least four years of relevant professional level experience is required. In addition, the successful candidate should be a fungible or specialist economist, with a strong background in macroeconomics, good knowledge of Fund policies and practices, as well as excellent analytical, written, oral expository, and interpersonal skills. Solid understanding of the use of macroeconomic models for forecasting and policy analysis is a plus, and familiarity with CD governance/CDMAP would be desirable.

This vacancy shall be filled by a 3-year Term appointment in accordance with the Fund’s new employment rules that took effect on May 1, 2015.

A regular staff member who is selected to fill the vacancy will maintain their open-ended status. If the selected candidate is a contractual employee, they will be offered a Term staff appointment. Staff members already on a term appointment will continue their current term but may receive an extension provided that their current term appointment has not already been extended.
