The Tax Policy 1 Division of the Fiscal Affairs Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has vacancies at the economist/senior economist level.

The selected candidate will participate in the division's delivery of technical assistance (TA) in tax policy to IMF member countries in Europe, Francophone Africa, Middle East and Central Asia. After a time in the division, the candidate will be expected to lead small teams of TA delivery, and manage all aspects of country tax policy technical assistance projects. The candidate should have broad knowledge and experience in evaluation and design of tax policies, including value-added and excise taxes, personal and corporate income taxes, and sector-specific or thematic taxation issues, such as international taxation, taxation of extractive industries and revenue forecasting. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to contribute to a range of other tasks, including reviewing the tax policy content of IMF surveillance and lending programs, participating or leading analytical projects, and liaising with other institutions engaged in tax policy work. Overseas travel is to be expected.

Qualifications:

Applicants should hold an advanced university degree or equivalent in economics, supplemented by at least four years of experience as tax policy experts in government, academia, or private consulting. Practical experience in tax policy formulation for developing countries is desirable. Applicants should possess strong analytical skills, written and oral communication skills in English, project management and diplomatic skills, and ability to work in small teams, including multi-disciplinary teams. A working knowledge of French or Arabic is desirable.

This vacancy shall be filled by a 3-year Term appointment in accordance with the Fund’s new employment rules that took effect on May 1, 2015.
