Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 650 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Economic Recovery, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding

(humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for an Economic Recovery Specialist for its Economic Recovery activities in Western Ukraine.

This position will report to the Area Manager.

Overall purpose of the role:

Under the supervision of the Area Manager, and in collaboration with the Economic Recovery Technical Coordinator, the Economic Recovery Specialist supports engagement on economic recovery research, contribution to economic recovery pilot activities, and engagement in local coordination functions. He/she will ensure a focus on identifying and understanding the economic recovery needs of vulnerable groups. He/she will be based in Lviv DRC office, with possible field activities in neighbouring oblasts (Volyn and Ivano-Frankivsk). The Economic Recovery Specialist will be under the line management of the Area Manager and technically managed at country level by DRC Economic Recovery Technical Coordinator.

Programming & Operations

  • Engages in research activities, in collaboration with Economic Recovery Technical Coordinator and MEAL department, including supporting on economic recovery assessments, and analysis of data produced by other actors in the economic recovery field, etc.
  • Contributes to the design of contextualized economic recovery programming which support vulnerable persons and communities.
  • Mapping of and engagement with stakeholders and duty bearers relevant to economic recovery programme in western Ukraine.

Food Security and Livelihoods Cluster. Coordinates livelihoods activities implemented by DRC with other similar actors to ensure synergies and most effective use of the available resources.

  • Leads implementation of durable solutions pilot economic recovery component, that is aimed at providing livelihoods opportunities to vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups.
  • Supports the quality implementation of cash assistance programming implemented in Lviv DRC office.
  • Contributes to internal and external reporting.

Required experience and competencies

  • Minimum three years of experience in the economic development field, business and/or in the finance sector.
  • Advanced project presentation skills, proven by at least two years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in economic-resilience projects in the context of the ongoing conflict in the west of Ukraine.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Good knowledge of key Microsoft Office programmes
  • Advanced English proficiency
  • Fluency in Ukrainian

Desired

  • Experience of working with an international NGO or similar
  • Experience in engaging in win-win cooperation schemes with the private sector, e.g.

corporate social responsibility (SCR) schemes

  • Ability to draft reports and project proposals in English, supported by recent work experience in the non-governmental sector

We offer:

Contract length: 3 months with the possibility of extension based on a successful probation period and available funding.

Level: Band G nm Level 2

Start date: As soon as possible
