Economic Recovery Assistant

Diyala/Baqubah

In 2003, following the start of foreign military operations in Iraq, DRC became one of the first organisations to provide humanitarian assistance in the country and now operates in 11 governorates, including Anbar, Baghdad, Babel, Diyala, Duhok, Erbil, Karbala, Kirkuk, Najaf, Ninewa and Salah-al-Din.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the economic recovery team in networking with the stakeholders such as local authorities, local and international NGOs, training centers and other relevant project partners.
  • Economic recovery project assistant is responsible in communicating and mobilizing for the livelihood projects with the target communities according to the DRC SOPs, project objectives and processes.
  • Beneficiary identification, registration, and selection for the livelihood projects.
  • In cooperation with the economic recovery officer and with the support from economic recovery team leader/project manager collecting beneficiary’s data according to DRC selection criteria per each activity, including assisting and conducting the livelihoods counseling process.
  • Implementing livelihoods projects in the field following DRC procedures.
  • Assisting and leading the relevant livelihoods training courses to the beneficiaries such as: life skills, business management skills, employability, language skills trainings, saving and loans training…etc.
  • Implementing multiple relevant livelihoods activities such as business grant, job placement, small and loans groups, market linkage activities, community awareness as well as capacity building for the stakeholders.
  • Conduct daily project site visits and write reports accordingly.
  • Ensuring that beneficiary documentation is correctly captured and filed for all the livelihoods activities.
  • Ensure that the project engages local stakeholders and develops local capacity for longer term sustainability
  • Commit to continuous learning and overall self-development.

Other

  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Iraq Programme Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
  • Ensure the respect of DRC Code of Conduct and DRC’s zero tolerance policy of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA), humanitarian principles and contribute to the integration of Protection and Age, Gender, Diversity (AGD) mainstreaming into DRC programming.
  • Undertake any other duties that may be assigned by the Line Manager including preparation of logistics, procurement and finance requirements.

Experience and technical competencies:

  • Understanding of DRC’s work and ability to follow up on project sites.
  • A suitable qualification and experience in Development work
  • Knowledge of local laws and regulations
  • Punctual, reliable, and efficient
  • Experience in employability skills training and implementing job placement activity.
  • Experience in delivering business management skills training.
  • Experience in implementing business grant activities.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Skill of problem solving.
  • Ability of making decisions

Preferred attributes

  • Prior experience working with NGOs or INGOs
  • At least one year experience with Economic recovery/ Livelihoods programs

Education:

Relevant educational background – bachelor’s degree

Languages: Spoken and written Arabic and English.
