UNDP works in close collaboration with the Government through strategic partnerships with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Commissions and Development Authorities. Additionally, UNDP collaborates with other UN Agencies in the context of Delivering as One (DaO) to leverage partnerships with bilateral and multilateral donors. Also, UNDP leverages the expertise and influence of CSO and Academia in advocacy, accountability, and quality data gathering, identification of innovative solutions and for knowledge production and dissemination.

UNDP seeks to strengthen partnerships with the private sector players as the Private Sector is recognised as a key partner in the achievement of the universally adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, accelerating structural transformations for sustainable development and building resilience to crises and shocks. UNDP seeks to support the alignment of private sector activities and investments with the 2030 Agenda by influencing investors and businesses of all sizes to embedding the SDGs into decision making and practices and support the government of Ghana to establish enabling policy and regulatory environments while facilitating multi-stakeholder partnerships.

Under the direct supervision of the Economic Analyst in consultation with the Senior Economic Advisor and the Head of Inclusive Growth and Accountable Governance Cluster, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

1-Contribute to UNDP’s work for continued learning and knowledge management in the area of economy and private sector partnership building: - support to facilitate discussions between public and private sector and the civil society on a specific development theme or industry sector. - support to analyze information to identify trends and gaps in economy and private sector participation and contribution to find solutions to development challenges through core business activities and other innovative initiatives. - support to mobilize and leverage private sector financial and in-kind resources for sustainable development solutions. - support to analyze relevant information, technology information, data and/or statistics for technical and professional inputs in research and various documents. - contribute to the development of strategic documents, annual work plans, project proposals, as well as other documents as needed.

  1. Support to facilitate knowledge building and sharing in relation to Private Sector partnerships and strategic partnerships development: -support and participate in the organization of workshops, seminars and trainings. -assist to identify and formulate lessons learnt and recommendations to be integrated into broader UNDP Ghana Country Office and UNDP Regional Bureau of Africa knowledge management efforts; contribute to knowledge networks and communities of practice

  2. Support communication of project outcomes and lessons learnt: -contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes, by collecting, analyzing, and reporting data and results. -contribute to production of relevant communication and advocacy materials, including website and social media content for UNDP Ghana. -propose and assist with development of information and publicity materials to raise public awareness and dissemination of project results

The UN Volunteer will be based in Accra, Ghana which is currently classified as hardship category A and a family duty station. This confirms that transport, medical, education and other services are at a high level compared to other countries in the region. At sea level, the climate of the country is tropical-hot and humid with average yearly temperatures of about 27oC (80oF) and little daily variation. At the interior's higher altitudes, the average yearly temperature is 20oC (68oF), and nights are generally cool. Annual rainfall varies from 500 centimetres (200 in.) on the southwestern slopes to 100 centimetres (40 in.) in the northern lowlands. There are two rain seasons in Ghana. The heaviest rain in the south is from April until June, and a lighter rain possible during September and first half of November. The total population of Ghana is about 30,832,019. Ghana is a Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) country. Regarding accommodation and food, houses and apartments can be rented from 600$ to 1000$ per month and meals at the restaurant cost between 10$ and 60$. Food, household commodities and clothing can be found in shops and local markets at reasonable prices. An entry visa is required for all travellers and must be obtained prior to arrival from an embassy. The Cedi is the local currency and according to the UN exchange rate system, a USD 1 is equivalent to 6.8 GHS in March 2022. Some commercial banks are operating in the country and Visa cards are accepted in very limited hotels.
