Duties and Responsibilities

The UN Resident Coordinator System encompasses all organizations of the UN system dealing with operational activities for development, regardless of their formal presence in the country. The UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC) is the designated representative of the UN Secretary-General and leading the UN Country Team (UNCT) and assumes the overall responsibility for – and coordination of – the development activities of the UN system. The UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in Angola brings together all the UN entities working on sustainable development in the country, and leads the United Nations Country Team (UNCT). Its main goal is to ensure joint planning and working together and ensure the delivery of tangible results in support of the development agenda of the Government of Angola, through the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, which guides the UN country team's development program cycle, in joint agreement with the Government. The main functions of the resident coordinator office include but not limited to strategic analysis and planning; oversight of the UN country programming cycle; representation and support of UN Secretariat and UN Agencies including those without formal presence in Angola; support the national coordination systems and processes; development and management of shared operational support services; crisis management preparedness and response; external communication and advocacy; human rights and political Development; joint resource mobilization and fund management; and general UNCT oversight and coordination. Under the direct supervision of the RCO Senior Economist, the intern will contribute specifically to the socio-economic area, including performing substantive analytical tasks, and those related to the support of the RC functions. The intern will be responsible for finding a suitable location, IT stationery equipment, and internet facilities to connect frequently with the RCO Economist. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Responsibilities - Support the analysis of some sections of the Common Country Analysis update and Voluntary National Report; - Supports RCO Senior Economist in monitoring the main socio-economic, SDG trends in Angola and in the region, with regular bi-weekly briefs; - Contribute to strengthening of SDGs data collection and management; - Support remotely the organization of events for the promotion of dialogue on SDGs; - Participate in relevant online events, and provide briefs to the RCO Senior Economist; - Support remotely the organization of national events and technical contributions to delegations in preparation of main global events such as COPs, SDGs-related global events, etc. - Proactively propose and/or follow-up on joint UN and/or DPs initiatives; - Support online meetings and communication with key government, private sector and civil society counterparts, partners; - Supports administrative tasks.

Qualifications/special skills

However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
