Overview

Support economic analysis and SDG monitoring for UN RCO in Angola.

You have:

• Must be a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme, or have completed such programs.
• Holder of a bachelor's degree in Economy or related social sciences, with preference for development economics.
• Fluency in English and Portuguese languages required; knowledge of another UN language desirable.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.
• Good interpersonal skills with a commitment to UN principles and values.
• Ability to draft documents in a clear and concise manner is essential.
• Elaboration of socio-economic analyses and policy recommendations, preferably on SDGs, is required.
• Familiarity with analyses on inequality, social exclusion, and poverty reduction, preferably in the LDCs/Sub-Saharan African context is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

The UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in Angola brings together all the UN entities working on sustainable development in the country, and leads the United Nations Country Team (UNCT). Its main goal is to ensure joint planning and working together and ensure the delivery of tangible results in support of the development agenda of the Government of Angola, through the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, which guides the UN country team’s development program cycle, in joint agreement with the Government. The main functions of the resident coordinator office include but not limited to strategic analysis and planning; oversight of the UN country programming cycle; representation and support of UN Secretariat and UN Agencies including those without formal presence in Angola; support the national coordination systems and processes; development and management of shared operational support services; crisis management preparedness and response; external communication and advocacy; human rights and political Development; joint resource mobilization and fund management; and general UNCT oversight and coordination. Under the direct supervision of the RCO Senior Economist, the intern will be hosted at the Resident Coordinator Office, and he/she carry out tasks related to coordination, specifically in the economic area, in order to contribute to the functioning of the office, including performing substantive tasks, particularly those related to the support of the RC functions. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Responsibilities - Supports RCO Senior Economist in monitoring the main socio-economic, SDG trends in Angola and in the region, with regular bi-weekly briefs and selecting main economic news from major media on a weekly basis; - Support the analysis and management of the updated Common Country Analysis; - Contribute to strengthening of SDGs data collection and management; - Support the organization of events for the promotion of dialogue on SDGs; - Support the organization of main periodic meetings, such as the network of economists and UNCT brownbag meetings, contributing to presentations and minutes as needed; - Participate in relevant events, and provide briefs to the RCO Senior Economist; - Support the organization of national events and technical contributions to delegations in preparation of main global events such as COPs, SDGs-related global events, etc. - Proactively propose and/or follow-up on joint UN and/or DPs initiatives; - Support meetings and communication with key government, private sector and civil society counterparts, partners; = Provides logistical assistance for relevant missions. - Supports administrative tasks. Undertakes any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme, although any professional experience in the relevant areas for this internship are an asset.
