The ESG Sustainability Advice and Solutions Department (CEG), includes approximately 250 staff and consultants. CEG supports IFC’s investment, advisory and upstream departments to manage ESG risks associated with their activities and find solutions to client issues based on our Environmental and Social (E&S) Performance Standards (www.ifc.org/performancestandards) and the Corporate Governance Methodology (www.ifc.org/corporategovernance). CEG further leverages this expertise and operational experience in emerging markets to encourage the effective adoption of these standards by companies and investors across emerging markets. CEG works in close collaboration with IFC’s operational departments and the Environmental & Social Policy and Risk Department (CES), an oversight department with about 30 E&S staff. IFC is committed to increasing proactivity, problem-solving, and institutional responsiveness to stakeholder complaints and concerns related to the E&S impacts of IFC’s investments. These regards complaints submitted to CAO, as well as to IFC directly. CEG is looking to enhance its capacity to lead the operational delivery of such a pro-active approach, in close collaboration with CES and with the support of the Stakeholder Grievance Response (SGR).

CEG is looking for a highly motivated development professional with proven leadership skills and 10 years of relevant technical experience to support this effort. The successful candidate will be part of an operational support function that enables Operations Teams to respond and resolve E&S grievances, including CAO cases. S/he will work closely with CEG Regional Team, CEG Knowledge & Learning function, Operations Teams, CES SGR and Risk Management and the CAO. S/he will report to the CEG Accountability Lead.

Duties and Accountabilities:

Support Operations Teams to develop and implement effective grievance response

o Support operations teams to formulate a Grievance Response Plan (GRP) for specific cases, that considers opportunities for early resolution. o Mobilize specialized resources in coordination with SGR (e.g., mediation, client capacity building) as needed to resolve issues early, monitor progress. o Support operations teams to preparate of effective Management Response to CAO Compliance Appraisal and Compliance Investigation Reports, including development and consultation of Management Action Plan in coordination with and in support of the operations team. o Support close coordination with CES and CEG Chief E&S Specialist on key issues, ensuring ownership by Project Team of process and deliverables. Directly support drafting process in complex cases, as needed.

Guide Management Oversight and Board Approval of CAO cases

o Support the process of Board approval of Management Action Plans, including bilateral meetings with ED Offices, coordination with Board Secretariat on Scheduling & documentation, coordination with CAO on process and key issues. o Support appropriate oversight by CEG Director and CCSVP throughout the preparation, review and Board Approval. Support their timely briefing them on process and key issues, and facilitate review and clearance of key deliverables and decisions.

Support the development and implementation of Advisory Solutions to enhance client accountability and remediation

o As needed, support the development of advisory tools to support clients (e.g., grievance mechanisms, strengthened ESMS systems), lead preparations as needed. o In coordination with Operations Teams, help identify and mobilize possible advisory solutions supporting clients with implementation of remedial solutions (MAP, CAP, etc.). o Mobilize and leverage expertise that could be deployed for advisory engagements with clients in coordination with operational teams. o Develop materials to brief clients on the CAO process.

Support operational, procedural and policy issues in relation to accountability and grievance response, as needed

o Support CEG Accountability Lead with regards to key new accountability policies, including remedy and responsible exit. Ensure CEG Managers and Director are appropriately briefed and involved as needed. o Monitor implementation of CAO policy, identify pain points in implementation and support the development of solutions to enhance processes -- in close coordination with SGR as needed. o Support engagement with CAO to develop and finetune protocols and ensure appropriate collaboration on specific cases -- in close coordination with SGR as needed. o Support engagement with SGR to continuously strengthen grievance response process, including management review and oversight.

Selection Criteria

• Advanced degree in social or environmental sciences, legal, human rights, dispute /conflict resolution or other relevant discipline. • Minimum seven years of relevant operational project management experience, including with private sector experience in areas such as: sustainability, E&S risk management, accountability processes, advisory services, business process improvement. • Exemplary project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines. • Effective and persuasive communicator (particularly written English language skills) able to clearly and concisely articulate positions • Knowledge of E&S Standards and their application in private sector operations. • International experience required with focus on developing countries. • Strong analytical skills and practical, problem-solving mindset and consensus building orientation • Excellent people skills including the ability to listen, understand different perspectives and relate well with a wide range of internal and external parties in potentially tense or conflictive situations. • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team • High personal integrity and emotional intelligence, with demonstrated ability to handle sensitive matters in a discreet and respectful manner. Diplomatic approach and calm under pressure.
