Description

The World Bank Country Department responsible for Seychelles is seeking a seasoned professional with demonstrated ability to deliver results to work as Economist based in Victoria, Seychelles.

The position requires a motivated and seasoned economist with strong analytical and interpersonal skills, significant experience in operational and/or analytic work drawing on diverse teams. S/he is expected to contribute substantially and/or lead analytical and operational work, working closely with the Senior Country Economist for Seychelles. S/he will contribute to the WBG country engagement process and develop relationships with government counterparts as well as internal and external stakeholders including NGOs, civil society, universities, think tanks, and development partners.

The selected Economist will report to the World Bank Practice Manager for Macroeconomics, Trade, and Investment covering Eastern and Southern Africa.

The duties and responsibilities include contributing to the economic policy dialogue with the Government of Seychelles and developing close and productive relations with clients and stakeholders in the Government of Seychelles; conducting economic monitoring and related analytical work on macroeconomics, trade, and climate change issues; supporting the monitoring of the Bank portfolio in Seychelles; contributing to a broad range of lending and non-lending tasks; providing the day-to-day technical support to government (policy briefs, presentations, and just-in-time technical notes); and taking a proactive role in promoting the latest advisory services and analytics working closely with the Seychelles World Bank team.

The successful candidate should hold a Master’s or Ph.D. (preferred) degree in economics, with at least five years of experience in applied research and policy analysis (in economic or public policy acquired in an international organization, national administration, university or research institution). Strong communication skills, including speaking persuasively and presenting ideas clearly and concisely with senior policy officials. Demonstrated effectiveness in conducting policy dialogue on economic issues with senior government officials, the private sector, donor representatives and civil society.
