E T Consultant

Description

IFC—a member of the World Bank Group—is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. We work in more than 100 countries, using our capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities in developing countries. In fiscal year 2022, IFC committed a record $32.8 billion to private companies and financial institutions in developing countries, leveraging the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity as economies grapple with the impacts of global compounding crises. For more information, visit www.ifc.org.

The Gender and Sustainability Solutions Department (CEG) includes approximately 300 staff and consultants. CEG supports IFC’s investment, advisory and upstream departments to manage ESG risks associated with their activities and find solutions to client issues on the basis of our Environmental and Social (E&S) Performance Standards (www.ifc.org/performancestandards) and the Corporate Governance Methodology (www.ifc.org/corporategovernance). CEG further leverages this expertise and operational experience in emerging markets to encourage the effective adoption of these standards by companies and investors across emerging markets. More details can be found at www.ifc.org/sustainability.

The WBG has committed to achieve 85% Paris Alignment (PA) by 2023 and 100% by 2025. As part of this commitment, IFC has developed a Paris Alignment Implementation Plan (August 2021) laying out the approach and responsibilities for this work. To support these efforts, CEG is putting in place a process to integrate climate E&S risk assessments into sectors and projects for which further technical expertise is sought.

CEG is seeking a junior or mid-level Climate E&S Risk Extended Term Consultant (ETC) to support screening and assessment of climate risk of IFC’s proposed investments in real sector companies and financial institutions and integration of PA into projects.

Duties and Accountabilities:

The climate E&S risk ET Consultant’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

• Support in implementing the climate E&S risk management program and the relevant risk evaluation tools including:

o Screening projects for climate E&S risks

o Gathering and analyzing available information

o Supporting, in coordination with the climate risk team, the project lead E&S specialist in the identification and proposition of appropriate mitigation measures for identified climate E&S risks and impacts

o Producing high-quality work products that clearly and logically frame climate E&S risk and relevant mitigation.

• Track and report on portfolio client performance regarding climate E&S risk management.

• Support in developing and rolling out the climate E&S risk management program and the relevant risk evaluation tools within the CEG department

• Contribute to the design and delivery of learning programs and guidance material on climate risk to E&S specialists. This may include gathering information from external sources on best practices, evolving trends and challenges, and emerging players that can be used to create new knowledge and learning products.

• Consolidate and analyze lessons learned during project implementation
