Result of Service To provide a women's health e-learning course for upgrading the knowledge and skillsets for the field medical workforce and play a significant role in addressing the capacity gaps in the field - harmonizing with standard global practices for quality women’s health care. To lead the pilot and formal launching implementation and assessment of the Women Health Training Programme.

Work Location Mainly attending to required tasks remotely, with the flexibility to travel and work on site as needed.

Expected duration 6 months.

Duties and Responsibilities The UN Department of Operational Support (DOS) has identified a need to develop an e-learning professional platform for the incumbent field medical workforce to upgrade their knowledge and skillsets and enhance the clinical capabilities in view of providing gender-sensitive quality medical services for female uniformed and civilian personnel.

To this end, the Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH)/DOS seeks one Senior Medical Officer with women’s health expertise who is able to undertake the expert role in leading the training material development and on-line course design and execution. Under the supervision of the Senior Medical Officer in Medical Workforce Management Team in DHMOSH, the incumbent can attend to these tasks remotely, in applicants' home country or on-site in New York.

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables: A Women's Health training expert is a healthcare provider who specializes in the comprehensive care of women throughout the lifespan offering primary care services to women of all ages. He/She should focus on reproductive, obstetric, and gynecological health. They should not only provide diagnostic care and treatment, but also focus on preventive health maintenance. The most important trait a women’s health expert should have is empathy for women and the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately on a variety of health subjects, and be able to handle women’s health related issues with sensitivity and professionalism, as it is understood that even health issues that affect both men and women can do so in different ways, both physically and emotionally, and role of women within their cultural sphere is also an important consideration for medical workforce working in diverse communities.

The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties and expected to produce key deliverables: ¿ Developing women’s health training material and curriculum plan; ¿ Providing professional input for the training project planning, execution and assessment; ¿ Supporting field survey analysis and stakeholder engagement and consultation; ¿ Leading the training in the following aspects: - Diagnosing, treating, and assisting female patients through illnesses, such as sexually transmitted infections, cervical cancer, breast cancer - Conducting physical examinations and screenings - Documenting medical history - Prescribing pharmacologic treatments - Providing primary and specialty care for women - Ensuring patients are educated and up to date on condition - Educate patients on preventative measures to avoid illness

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: A first-level university degree that qualifies for registration as a licensed medical practitioner (MD, MBBS, MBChB or equivalent) or an accredited Baccalaureate Nursing Program (BSN) that qualifies for registration as a registered professional nurse and a nursing educator is required; Post-graduate specialist training for the medical practitioner in women’s health or gynecology is required; MSN Program/nursing educator diploma for Nurses is required. Experience: Women’s Health Medical Practitioner (MD or equivalent) or Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner with minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in the field of women’s health, among which at least 2 years should be dedicated to providing women’s health related training and teaching activities. Experience in development of e-learning programs is desirable. Previous UN/international health training experience health course management experience are desirable. Language: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory. Knowledge in French (oral and written) is desirable. Knowledge in any of the other official languages of the United Nations is an asset (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish).
