Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

The OCHA Welcome Package is a collection of resources that is made available to new staff within the first 6 months of their onboarding to develop the knowledge and understanding of OCHA mandate and operations. As part of the Welcome Package, the LDU team has coordinated development of an e-learning course (OCHA e-Foundational course: Welcome to OCHA!) drawing inputs from all OCHA internal functional areas. The course, published in 2021, provides an overview of the mandate and vision, core functions and objectives of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The course exists in English, French and Spanish.
The course is designed for all new personnel of OCHA as well as the partner organizations working with OCHA to meet the needs of those who are affected by crises. It also provides foundational knowledge to aid workers seeking to gain an understanding of OCHA, the wider humanitarian system, and the UN system. The course is available as a free course on the Disaster Ready platform. In summer 2023 the LDU initiated an update process to ensure that the course remains current. Focal points from OCHA functional areas have provided feedback and updates for the course in an offline environment. The LDU is now actively seeking the assistance of one Online Volunteer who can assist in finalizing the updated version of the course in Articulate with a final English proofreading of the content. The assignment should be completed online, with an ideal start in early/mid November 2023.

We are seeking one online volunteer to undertake the following tasks: • Finalize the updated course (text, graphics) based on guidance that will be made available and edit accordingly. This editorial work will be done by the Online Volunteer directly in the Articulate tool.
• Edit visuals and tables as per proposed edits.
• Proofread the newly edited sections and correct any typo as required. The content to be reviewed ranges roughly between 7,000 and 9,000 words in total (approximately 1/3 of the entire course).

The online Volunteer will work in collaboration with LDU team (L&D Officer, Assistant and one Intern) who will provide guidance and support as required.

The online volunteer should: • Have a working knowledge of Articulate 360. • Have experience in editorial and proofreading work. • Be native English speaker or with excellent English language proficiency. • Have attention for details. • Have some experience with graphic design. • A good understanding of humanitarian-related topics is a plus.

The role will involve collaborating with the LDU on regular basis, preferably through MS Teams and email.
