Job Description

Job Overview:

The Drupal Backend Developer works on all aspects of technical development, architecture, documentation and maintenance for the IRC’s external-facing global communications web properties. Working closely with multi-functional internal staff (External Relations, Operations, IT) and external consultants, they plan, design and implement CMS solutions that address the fundraising and communications needs of the IRC to better serve our clients. Coordinates digital projects with manager-level partners from IRC, as needed. Overall, they support the IRC’s ability to deliver high-quality web content in support of its work and mission!

Major Responsibilities:

1. Builds flexible web platforms to meet the needs of operating a global communications and marketing business on the web.

2. Implements and maintains existing Drupal systems and architect new ones.

3. Works shoulder-to-shoulder with in-house technical resources to ensure design and hosting solutions deliver efficient performance.

4. Helps lead technical work with other resources within the team and organization, as well as any external development partners or vendors.

5. Works with Website Product Manager and other Technical leads (IT, External Relations, external vendors) to set technical management standard methodologies and produce documentation for our technical platforms.

6. Drives our platform strategy forward by bringing innovative new technical approaches to the table.

Job Requirements:

Work Experience:

Minimum:

· 5+ years of web development experience

· 3+ years Drupal experience

· Experience developing with Drupal 9

· Experience working with Pantheon or similar cloud hosting for CMS platforms

Preferred:

· Experience implementing, integrating and contributing to Open Source Software projects

· Familiarity with large Drupal instances

· Experience with multilingual and global websites for large international or federated organizations

· E-Commerce and/or fundraising experience

· Experience with build tools like CircleCI and Drupal’s configuration management system

· Familiarity with Lando or similar docker-based local development solutions

· Experience with WordPress

· Experience with hosting/deploying CMS platforms on Azure cloud

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

Minimum:

· Drupal development, deployment, and hosting

· Working with relational database system, ideally MySQL

Preferred:

· Pattern-based, mobile-first design experience

· Client-side scripting with Javascript/JQuery

· Expertise in cross-browser compatibility issues

· Demonstrable experience of architecture moderately sophisticated global systems.

· Hands-on experience with the Drupal API, including module development and custom theming

· Worked with Web Services and APIs

· Experience with Salesforce a plus

· Has used version control to collaborate with other developers on large projects using Git

Education:

Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer/Information Science or equivalent work experience

Preferred: Master’s Degree or higher in Software Engineering, plus any degree-level qualification in course related to the IRC’s core mission (i.e. public policy, internationals relations etc)

Language Skills: None

Licenses or Certifications: None required, Acquia Drupal 8 and 9 certifications preferred.
