Key Responsibilities:

Major Activities

  • Review, update, and implement the WVU’s, DRR, and CCA strategies.
  • Manage the development of a joint strategy together with the development partners for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation based on the evidence generated from capacity enhancement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support for the implementation of DRR and CCA strategies within the WVU staff, local and national governments, and development partners to enhance community resiliency.
  • Provide training to WVU staff on DRR and Climate Change Adaptation.
  • Support field teams on training of central and local government staff on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.
  • Ensure overall integration/mainstreaming of DRR and CCA into WVU Technical Programmes (TPs) and Household Clusters.
  • Document and disseminate the lessons learned: success stories, on DRR and CCA internally and at the local government level as relevant influence best practices for community resilience.
  • Coordinate and organize exchange and field visits to the WVU operation areas and monitor progress to ensure the operationalization of WVU’s DRR & CCA strategy.
  • Actively participate in the relevant meetings, conferences, and strategic networks on DRR/CCA. Participate and co-facilitate meetings, training, workshops, and events organized by the WVU on DRR and CCA
  • Support in organizing regional and international meetings involving policy makers (government, civil society, and other key actors

KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

  • At least 3 years’ experience working on: Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation, and Community Resilience in Uganda or the East African region.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in, Environmental studies, Disaster Risk Reduction, or related field from a recognized University. A Master’s Degree in any of the above is an added advantage.
  • Pool of knowledge and understanding of key issues related to Climate Change Adaptation issues, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Community Resilience in development projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working on policy development and capacity building - this includes the use of methodologies that maximize performance for DRR and CCA, sustainable LH’s, and SP.
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of community-based climate change adaptation and DRR, sustainable livelihoods, social protection as well as natural resource management
  • Strong knowledge/experience in results-based management and results-oriented approach to project implementation.
