ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

WFP has been working in the Dominican Republic since 1969 supporting the country in achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 - Zero Hunger through technical assistance for national capacity building and the development of strategies that contribute to healthy, nutritious and sufficient food, as well as building resilience of the most vulnerable population

JOB PURPOSE

The Dominican Republic, due to its geographical location in the Caribbean region and conditions inherent to its geomorphology, is exposed to a series of threats that have their origin in the dynamics of nature and others produced by the intervention of the hand of man, which puts a significant part of the population at great risk.

Under overall guidance of the Country Director and TEC unit, the candidate will be expected to support operations and projects, through knowledge transfer, technical structured solutions, emergency assessments, implementation of the deployment of UAS’s in risk management and the use of the technology in development operations, for the humanitarian community and government entities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Build, planning and delivery of training programmes on the use of UAS in varied scenarios (emergencies, risk management, development programmes, etc.) 2. Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders within WFP, government, and the humanitarian community to strengthen UAS operations, standards, and protocols in the country. 3. Plan and advise on missions of varying types (scoping, assessment, emergency, etc.), act as ‘back-office’ support. 4. Undertake scoping missions alone or as part of a team to determine project goals, deliverables, features, functions, tasks, deadlines and costs in specific countries or regions. 5. Understand and apply the capabilities of the available UAS technology and its operational uses to integrate with another technologies.

6. Advise on necessary upgrades to UAS and/or their software packages/data management tools to senior management to be able to carry out assigned projects. 7. Under corporate guidelines prepare standard operating procedures and systematization of activities as required. 8. Deploy alone or as part of a team to support emergency operations according requirements WFP. 9. Support the overall RBP UAS Strategy. 10. Others as required.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

1. Technical capacity building trainings required by local partners are delivered. 2. UAS advisory is delivered to internal and external scenarios, and accompanied by the necessary documents: meeting notes, SOPs, etc. 3. Support is provided to all initiatives that have a drone component or data collected with drones (reports, evidence of exercises and others that may be required). 4. Provide support in the coordination with the government in emergency assistance matters.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
