You have:

  • Completion of secondary school education.
  • Formal driver's training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations.
  • Two or more years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record.
  • Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks, and other kinds of motorized vehicles.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads/waterways and conditions, and security issues.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, buoyant wearable safety devices, etc.).
  • Fluency (level C) in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.

JOB PURPOSE

WFP Country Office requires the services of 20 x Drivers to support its operations in Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Muzaffarabad and Karachi. All drivers will be allocated hired vehicles or WFP vehilces to be brought out of storage/ mothballs during their contractual period. The task requires individuals who have the ability to adhere to local rules of the road, speed limits, WFP safety and security regulations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Safely operate UN assigned vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel, goods, and equipment. 2. Provide transportation support for official meetings, missions, and field visits, ensuring punctuality and adherence to road safety regulations. 3. Assist with the loading and unloading of cargo and ensure that all items are properly secured during transport. 4. Perform routine vehicle maintenance, including regular cleaning, fueling, and checking of oil, water, brakes, and other vehicle fluids. 5. Report any mechanical faults or issues promptly and ensure that necessary repairs are carried out in a timely manner. 6. Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance and fuel consumption. 7. Adhere to all traffic rules and regulations, both local and international, while driving UN organization vehicles. 8. Ensure the safety and security of passengers and cargo at all times. 9. Familiarize oneself with the organization's security protocols and implement them during missions or field visits. 10. Assist with the collection and delivery of mail, documents, and other official items as required. 11. Maintain an up-to-date logbook of all trips, mileage, and fuel consumption. 12. Support in other administrative duties as assigned 13. Report any mechanical faults timely.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

Completion of secondary school education. Formal drivers training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations. Experience: Two or more years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks and other kinds of motorised vehicles. Experience in defensive driving is desirable.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads/waterways and conditions, and security issues. • Knowledge of the vehicle loading capacity and other parameters. • Knowledge of driving/boat operating rules and regulations whichever applicable. • Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, buoyant wearable safety devices, etc.). • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. • Basic skills to assist in case of emergency, knowledge of first aid basic methods. • Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications. • Ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs. • Ability to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy and tact.

Language: Fluency (level C) in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.
