Provide reliable and safe driving services for FAO personnel.
You have:
- Completed Intermediate and/or Secondary education.
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License – D2.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a similar position with a flawless safe driving record.
- Working knowledge of English and Arabic.
- National of Syria.
Organizational Setting
The main aim of the FAO Syria Country Office is to assist government to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to develop the agricultural fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
Reporting Lines
The incumbent works under the overall supervision of the Assistant FAOR Administrative.
Technical Focus
Provide reliable and safe driving services by driving office staff and visitors, delivering, and collecting mail, documents and other items.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Transport the assigned FAO personnel, designated in Damascus to several identified locations, districts, and outskirts inside and rural the governorate as official trips/errands.
• Travel on official (Convoy - Shuttle) missions from Damascus to different Syrian governorates and vice versa;
• Take part in UN convoys (joint missions) when required;
• Maintain an up-to-date Log form/sheet of all conducted trips. The form should be filled with accurate and genuine information such as; dates, times, odometers, and destinations;
• Keep a precise record of mileage and fuel consumption in addition to transportation related expenditures, vehicle service and repairs;
• Ensure day-to-day preventative check of the assigned AV; checking oil, water, battery, tires, etc; Perform minor repairs (when needed) and timely report for any other necessary repairs in order to keep the vehicle safe and technically sound at all times; maintain the vehicle in clean condition;
• Prematurely report the needed regular maintenance of the vehicle to the line supervisor; Immediately report any sudden technical issue, problem, or accident that may happen to the line supervisor;
• When involved in an accident, ensure that all organizational/UN and local/country rules, regulations and procedures are followed correctly and properly;
• Follow the rules of safe driving and comply with the safety/security standards defined by the UN system in Syria to ensure the safety of both vehicle and passengers in sensitive areas where FAO programmes are implemented;
• Collect and deliver mails, documents, pouches, and other items belong to the organization from FAO office to the concerned governmental agencies, institutions, airport, project sites, etc. as requested.
• When needed, assist FAO personnel in performing simple clerical duties;
• Perform other related duties as required.

Technical/Functional Skills
• Experience in Humanitarian agencies and/or driving AVs will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of the local driving rules and regulations

• Safe and careful driving manner, familiarity of routes, good sense of directions
• Ability to cope with extended working hours
• Willingness to travel occasionally to remoter locations outside of duty station
