ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Job holders report to the Head of Dohuk Field Office or the designate, and drive light vehicles, trucks, vans. The job may involve basic administrative assistance in the office or stores.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide efficient and safe transportation of authorized personnel and/or commodities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Provide reliable driving services by using assigned transport means for the transport of authorized WFP staff members, officials, and visitors as per authorized routing following UN safety and security rules and regulations; Deliver and collect goods, mail, documents, and other items.
  2. Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required.
  3. Take care of the day‐to‐day efficient maintenance of the assigned means of transport, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensure that the vehicle is always kept clean and in good running condition.
  4. Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
  5. Produce weekly records of mileage travelled and tonnage moved.
  6. Negotiate, liaise, and coordinate with local authorities to facilitate vehicle movements in designated areas.
  7. Check means of transport for mechanical fitness and the security of the cargo, ensuring that cargo is protected against all weather conditions.
  8. Identify any apparent problems during field deliveries and report them to the supervisor.
  9. Take the steps required in accordance with the rules and regulations in case of an accident.
  10. Perform other related duties as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. Formal drivers training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations.

Experience: Two or more years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record.

Experience in driving a variety of vehicles, including vans, trucks and other kinds of motorised vehicles. Experience in defensive driving is desirable.

Language: Fluency (level C) in the English , Arabic and Kurdish

Preferable Qualification

Experience of driving Armed Vehicle is preferable

Knowledge & Skills:

• Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads/waterways and conditions, and security issues. • Knowledge of the vehicle loading capacity and other parameters. • Knowledge of driving operating rules and regulations whichever applicable. • Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, buoyant wearable safety devices, etc.). • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. • Basic skills to assist in case of emergency, knowledge of first aid basic methods. • Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications. • Ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs. • Ability to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy and tact.

Terms and Conditions

Position Title: Driver

Grade: SC2

Contract: Service Contract

Duty Station/travel: Dohuk, Iraq

Salary: Starting at USD 1199.21 monthly.

Medical Plan: Valid medical plan for the staff member, spouse, and dependents children under 18 years

Annual leave: 30 working days per annum
