In Palestine, NRC provides humanitarian assistance and promotes respect for international law in one of the longest-running displacement crises in modern history. In the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza, NRC’s work includes emergency preparedness and response, education, ICLA, protection, shelter, and WASH.

Qualifications

Our Ideal Candidate must have:

We value reliability and organizational skills, and we are looking for someone who can communicate effectively, work well in a team, and handle pressure. Basic analytical and IT skills are also desirable.

Generic professional competencies:

  • Experience from working as a Driver in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Verbal knowledge of English is preferable

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of country roads and directions
  • Highly approachable, trustworthy and confidential
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently
  • Ability to work in a flexible working schedule subject to work needs.

In this position, you will join a highly motivated and experienced team making a difference for vulnerable people in one of the world's most complex humanitarian crisis.

Additional Information:

Contract duration: Open End.

Working hours: 40 hours/week, Sun-Thu (5 days per week)

Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s salary scale and terms and conditions

Duty station: Gaza (open to Gaza strip residents only)

Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities

  1. Role and responsibilities

The purpose of the Driver position is to provide daily professional and reliable transport to NRC resources.

Generic responsibilities

  1. Transport NRC staff, visitors, documents and goods/materials to designated destinations when officially approved.
  2. Ensure the safety and security of the passengers, the goods and the vehicle.
  3. Immediately report accidents, breakdowns and needs of repair and general maintenance/service.
  4. Respect the local traffic regulations and the NRC logistical/vehicle policies at all times.
  5. Maintain the logbook for all trips.
  6. Maintain the vehicle in proper operating condition at all times, including keeping the vehicle clean, ensuring enough fuel, checking the technical state etc.
  7. In liaison with the line manager, arrange for repairs and servicing.
  8. Ensure the assigned vehicle has all the necessary documents and equipment.
  9. Provide logistical support during trainings and workshops.

Specific responsibilities

  1. Perform safe and secure transportation of NRC personnel and deliveries throughout Gaza District.
  2. Adhere to daily movement schedules and, where necessary, assist with organizing schedules to ensure maximum efficiency.
  3. Observe the route, road, location, destination and security situation in each journey and report back to the Security Focal Point in case of any incident.
  4. Adhere to all NRC Palestine security and safety policies and guidelines, including any updated information.
  5. Perform carrying out loading/unloading duties as required.
  6. Report immediately any accident following NRC procedures applicable in such situation
  7. Carry out other tasks as directed by management.
  8. Undertake any other reasonable task assigned by management
