  • Minimum 3 (three) years work experience as a Driver in international and/or Diplomatic working environment and understanding of the protocols involved is required.
  • Technical or Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent, with Valid Driver’s license and very good knowledge of the local driving rules, regulations and courtesies.
  • Very good ability to communicate both orally and in writing, in both French and English.
  • Knowledge of any other working languages of the African Union (Arabic, Portuguese, Kiswahili or Spanish) is an added advantage.

Purpose of Job

The Driver shall provide driving and vehicle routine maintenance services, as well as assist in handling logistical activities carried out by the Mission, with particular emphasis of transferring mail, packages and all sorts of items as required by the office. The Driver/Messenger will also assist protocol related functions

Main Functions

• Provide non-clerical support • Follow up and implement operational work schedules and support activities. • Ensures compliance to operational standards • Assist in liaising effectively with internal and external stakeholders

Specific Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Finance and Administrative Officer, the Driver performs the following duties:

• Serve as a driver/messenger to the Permanent Mission; • Drive office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items; • Facilitate the periodic vehicles technical checkup process in accordance with traffic laws and regulations of the Switzerland; • Keep the assigned vehicle(s) in very clean condition at all times and carry out daily routine maintenance checks on the vehicle/s to establish roadworthiness and make recommendations concerning repair and service. Such checks should focus but not limited to –oil, water, battery, lights, brakes, tyres, communication system, etc; • Maintain the vehicle logs in accordance with established administrative procedures of the AUC in general; • Perform any other duty relevant to their work as may be assigned by the office

Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience

• Technical or Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent, with Valid Driver’s license and very good knowledge of the local driving rules, regulations and courtesies. • Minimum 3 (three) years work experience as a Driver in international and/or Diplomatic working environment and understanding of the protocols involved is required. Candidates with higher number of years as work experience in such working environments will be considered as an advantage

TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:

The appointment will be made on a regular term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months shall be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.

REMUNERATION:

Indicative basic salary of US$ 6,935.00 per annum GSB7 (Step 1) locally recruited staff of the Commission.
