UNICEF Syria is providing humanitarian support to the needy people focusing on children through its five hub offices. Qamishli field office is operating the programme in three governorates of Al Hassakeh, Ar Raqqa and Eastern rural of Dier Ez Zour. UNICEF Qamishli filed office provide life-saving assistance for the most vulnerable population within wide geographical area (76,043 m2) that requires the improvement of Qamishli field office operational capacity including AVs to ensure timely and quality delivery of services to the targeted population.

How can you make a difference?

Under the general supervision of the Chief, Field Office and direct supervision of Senior Operations Associate in Qamishli , the recruited driver will perform driver duties and responsibilities through providing reliable and safe driving services, ensuring the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol whilst ensuring compliance with local driving rules and regulations. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

The area of responsibility is covering three Governates (Al Hassaka – Der Ezzor – Ar Raqqa), the job demands frequent travel from UNICEF field office in Qamishli to several locations over long distances, sometimes including weekends and overnight outside Qamishli. Each mission to the field should include two AVs and sometimes more than one mission is conducted per day due to the expansion of the programmes in the AOR which requires a fourth driver to cover the drivers leaves entitlements and to stay in the office to cover the city’s local movements.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Using office vehicles only for UN staff, officials and visitors’ transportation.
  2. Delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items.
  3. Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and performs protocol functions, as required such as basic visa and customs formalities Arrangements.
  4. Ensure that all safety regulations, security operating procedures and standard HF & VHF communications procedures are followed.
  5. Ensures that the mandated security related equipment is present and operational in the vehicle at all times.
  6. Ensure that all rules and regulations are followed in case of involvement in any accident related to the vehicle and or the passengers.
  7. Maintain daily checklist on day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicle and review it with the supervisor so that the office could take preventive action in case any minor/major repairs needed.
  8. Checks changes of oil check of tires, water levels, battery, brakes, etc., performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs
  9. Ensure clean and tidy vehicle exterior and interior, including the engine at all time and follow the approved maintenance schedule.
  10. Maintain vehicle logbook to record both official and personal usage (KM), Fuel consumption and ensure that the user signs the logbook.
  11. Performs any other assignment given by the supervisor or as management may decide from time to time.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Secondary Education; a valid driver’s license and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations. Applicant should have a public transport license (D).
  • Two years’ work experience as a driver, with safe driving record. Experience driver in an international organization, embassy or UN system is an asset.
  • knowledge of the complexity of the local context, roads, check points.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies.
  • Skills in vehicle maintenance and minor repairs is an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of different national and cultural background.
  • Fluency in Arabic is required. Good knowledge of English and another local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
