ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Country Offices (COs), and Sub Offices. Job holders report to the Admin Assistant, and may drive light vehicles, trucks, vans or any other type of land transport. The job may involve basic administrative assistance in the office or stores.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNEMENT

To provide efficient and safe transportation of authorized personnel and/or commodities, in addition to the following:

  • Responsible for keeping the assigned vehicle is kept clean and in a good condition including all equipment, the maintenance is done on time, vehicle is fully equipped with required travel authorization and supplies, and any mechanical issues are reported to the supervisor to ensure safe and efficient services.
  • Follow all national and organizational traffic and driving rules & regulation.
  • Demonstrate and Adhere to all safe driving practices.
  • Follow established rules and regulations for field deliveries and/or in cases of an accident, and report immediately to the supervisor on any apparent problems, to seek for instructions and facilitate informative decisions on the way forward.
  • Outside driving duties, perform basic office related tasks such as filing, photocopying and maintaining stores when required including delivery/collection of various items, mailing service and payment of office telephone and other bills to ensure administrative support to clients.
  • Perform other administrative duties as requested

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. Formal drivers training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations.

Experience : Two or more years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks and other kinds of motorized vehicles. Experience in defensive driving is desirable.

Language: Fluency in Arabic language, good knowledge of English language

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads/waterways and conditions, and security issues.
  • Knowledge of the vehicle loading capacity and other parameters.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, buoyant wearable safety devices, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic skills to assist in case of emergency, knowledge of first aid basic methods.
  • Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications.
  • Ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
  • Ability to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy and tact.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

Knowledge & Skills:

• Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads/waterways and conditions, and security issues. • Knowledge of the vehicle loading capacity and other parameters. • Knowledge of driving/boat operating rules and regulations whichever applicable.

• Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, buoyant wearable safety devices, etc.).

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

• Basic skills to assist in case of emergency, knowledge of first aid basic methods.

• Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications.

• Ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs.

• Ability to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy and tact.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Fixed-term Appointment: An appointment for a continuous period of one year and shall have a specified expiration date and subject to a probationary period of one year, which may be extended to 18 months.

Annual Net Pay Salary: as per the established salary scale for Egypt.

Staff Assessment A staff assessment, comparable to national income tax, shall be applied to the gross salaries and such other payments. The assessment shall be calculated at rates set forth in the FAO Administrative Manual.

Dependency allowances: applicable to children up to 18 years of age, or up to 21 years in full-time school attendance.

United Nation Joint pension fund a deduction of 7.9% from the pensionable remuneration will be made from the net salary, the WFP will contribute of 15.8%.

Medical Insurance: Mandatory for staff members and can be extended to dependents in a cost sharing.

Annual leave: 2.5 days a month and Sick leave: 2 days per month

Official Holidays: 10 days as officially established for each duty station.
