Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. With presently 194 member states, and working in more than 130 countries worldwide, including Namibia. FAO contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind. The main of the FAO Country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources sustainably. FAO Country Office activities include the design and implementation of country-specific field programs, liaison with local donors' representatives, and active outreach activities related to FAO initiatives.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Namibia and direct to the Assistant FAO Representative – Administration.

Technical focus

The Driver is responsible for driving the Country Office Staff of FAO Representations and visitors. He/she also provides other transportation-related and messenger services for the Country Office Staff of FAO Representations/Regional Offices.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Drive office vehicles to transport FAO staff on official duties to the field in the country; • Meet official personnel at the airport and assist with hotel check-in; • Log official trips in/or out of the country; • Ensure day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicle(s); vehicle fuel consumption and fill the log sheet accordingly; perform minor repairs on the vehicle; ensure assigned vehicle is clean and tidy at all times; • Check service dates and make necessary bookings for the service, collect the vehicle after the service and make necessary payment for additional repairs if applicable. • Report any malfunction on the vehicle. • Ensure that steps required by FAO rules and regulations are followed in the event of an accident. • Assist the office with the distribution of office mail and packages. • Deliver and collect visa applications at Embassies and assist Administration with gathering of information for visa when necessary. • Assist the Procurement and logistics section with collecting information on quotations, collect orders, photocopying, and other logistics. • Assist to prepare local and international Travel Authorizations (TA’s) for approval. • Make administrative arrangements for the Country Office and perform administrative duties to ensure security and office maintenance. • Performs any other duties that maybe assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Secondary school education • Clean Driving Licence • Minimum of 5 years of driving experience in an office environment. • Working knowledge of EnglishNational of Namibia
