BACKGROUND

Street Child is a rapidly growing, child-focused, humanitarian, and development organisation. In 2023, Street Child celebrated reaching over 1.5 million children across 25 countries over its fifteen years of existence. This was accomplished with and through a growing network of more than 200 national and local actors.

Street Child has been operating in Liberia since 2013, and since then has supported over 50,000 children to access improved protection and education services. Its c.$1m program portfolio is currently focussed on addressing the barriers to education for children in Montserrado, Margibi, Maryland and River Gee counties, in strong support of the government’s priorities.

Street Child is entering the fourth and final year of the Education for Every Child Today (EFECT) project which aims to enrol 13,500 out of school children in Liberia in education, in partnership with Education a Child (EAC).

Job functions Summary:

The driver will carry out daily driving duties and support the efficient functioning of the office, working as a key part of SCI-Liberia team. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing a safe, effective service to SCI-Liberia; this includes providing professional and safe driving services, efficient messenger and administrative support, ensuring proper maintenance of the vehicle fleet.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Driving SCI-Liberia staff to meetings, appointments and functions, checking the location of meetings and demonstrating an excellent knowledge of Monrovia and the surrounding area.

  • Providing transport and logistical support for SCI-L visitors.

  • Responsibility for all vehicle care; undertaking daily vehicle checking of tyres, hydraulic (brake) fluid, engine oil, radiator and battery levels and verifying the rear and front lights including indicator and brake lights are in good working order.

  • Ensuring the SCI-L vehicles are always clean, refuelled, and in good running condition and that regular maintenance schedules are followed.

  • Overseeing routine and urgent maintenance of vehicles. Working with local garages to ensure proactive maintenance is completed in a timely and proper manner to ensure minimum down time of the vehicle.

  • Maintaining a daily log of all journeys and ensuring that passengers complete the Vehicle Journey Log.

  • Reporting any vehicle accidents and/or malfunctions to the Line Manager.

  • Distributing letters/invitations and carrying out all other errands or work as required by SCI-Liberia.

  • Ensure that vehicle is used for the intended/assigned purpose in accordance with the prior authorisation given by the supervisor.

  • Follow all SCI-Liberia driving safety regulations while driving and observe all traffic rules.

EDUCATION AND JOB-RELATED SKILLS

  • A clean current ‘category C’ driving license - essential.

  • Proven ability to concentrate and drive safely in heavy and hazardous driving conditions.

  • Good knowledge of basic car maintenance and mechanical principles.
