You have:

  • Completion of primary school education and valid driving license.
  • Minimum of one-year driving experience as a driver; clean safe driving record.
  • Intermediate knowledge of English and the local language (Arabic) is essential.
  • Basic mechanics certificate and first aid training would be an advantage.
  • Ability to read, write and understand instructions in the working language.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations of the country and skills in minor vehicle repair.
  • An ability to write a concise and official report of incidents.
  • Ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs.

Contract

This is a G-2 contract. This kind of contract is known as General Service and related categories. It is normally only for nationals. It usually requires 2 years of experience, depending on education. More about G-2 contracts.

Purpose of the Position

Within the Country Management Support Unit, the position is within the Operations team with objective to provide transportation service to the WHO Country Office by driving WHO Official vehicles to convey authorized personnel, handle deliveries, collection of mail, documents and other items.

The incumbent will drive WHO Official Vehicle safely without traffic violations and ensure that vehicles are kept in good and working conditions.

Objectives of the Programme and the immediate Strategic Objectives

<span style="font-family:Arial;margin-bottom:7px;margin-top:7px;"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;"><span style="background:white;"><span style="color:black;">Country Office Support Units have been established in the organisational structure to provide support for Managers and staff to fully assume their responsibilities in the GSM environment and to ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, rules and regulations on all administrative and financial matters and transactions in the context of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.</span></span></span></span>

Within the CSU unit, the Operations Support and Logistics team is responsible for a pool of WHO vehicles and other transportation medium ensuring efficient use of resources and coordinating field travel to the regions across the country

Summary of Assigned Duties

  1. Drive office vehicles to convey authorized personnel, handle delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items;
  2. Meet authorized personnel at the airport, facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required;
  3. Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
  4. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
  5. Performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs, regular servicing and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean and mission ready.
  6. Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumptions, oil changes, greasing, etc. and fills in the Monthly vehicle data form at the end of the month.;
  7. Ensures that the steps required by the rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident
  8. Perform other related duties as required or instructed, including providing support to other areas of work as assigned by the supervisor

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Completion of primary school education and valid driving license.

Desirable: Basic mechanics certificate and first aid training would be an advantage.

Experience

Essential: Minimum of one-year driving experience as a driver; clean safe driving record.

Desirable: Experience in driving within WHO or other UN agency an asset. Experience in Oracle-based or other ERP systems an asset.

Use of language skills

  • Essential: intermediate knowledge of English and the local language (Arabic) is essential

Specific skills required:

  • Ability to read, write and understand instructions in the working language
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations of the country and skills in minor vehicle repair.
  • An ability to write a concise and official report of incidents.
