Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The post is in the UNEP Pretoria, South Africa. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Head of UNEP Pretoria Office, Ms. Meseret Zemedkun and will be responsible for the following:

  • Collects and delivers of mail, documents, and other items.
  • Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required;
  • Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tries, etc.; performs minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean.
  • Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
  • Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
  • Performs other duties.

    Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Completion of secondary school or its equivalent commercial school is required. Must hold a valid driving license and have a safe accident-free driving record. Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in provision of driving services is required. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models, particularly light passenger vehicles is required. An additional three years of professional experience as an official driver/clerk is desirable. Experience working as a professional driver in international organizations such as the United Nations is desirable. Experience driving high-level officials is desirable. Experience in dealing with authorities in expediting customs clearance, visas etc. is desirable. Language: Working knowledge of English
