OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The WHO Country Office in Papua New Guinea works closely with the National Department of Health, other development partners and stakeholders to promote the global and regional health goals to achieve good health for Papua New Guinea citizens. The strategic priorities include: 1) achieving sustainable health outcomes; 2) strengthening health system; and 3)emergency preparedness, surveillance and health security.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Administrative Assistant and Programme and Administrative Officer, the incumbent performs the following functions:

  1. Drives the official vehicles of the Organization;
  2. Transports/meets head of office, high ranking officials and other official personnel;
  3. Collects and delivers mail and documents when required;
  4. Be responsible for keeping his driving license valid and for conforming to the traffic code for meeting all requirements of driving regulations and safety requirements; takes appropriate precautions for the security of the vehicle and its contents when left unattended;
  5. Be responsible for day-to-day maintenance and cleanliness of the assigned vehicles, carries out regular check of oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and any malfunctioning, etc., and performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs;
  6. Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc of the vehicles assigned to him; prepares and submits monthly report of the assigned vehicle to the fleet manager for monthly update on tracpoint;
  7. Ensures that the GPS and tracking devices are operational and checks those daily to ensure their functionality; 8. Ensures that necessary steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case he or his vehicle is involved in anaccident;9. Coordinates for driver's monthly roster during his rotation turn as fleet coordinator; 10. Provides back up to other team members during their absences; and11. Performs other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Equivalent to graduation from secondary school with thorough training in driving of automobile/minibus Desirable: Additional education an asset.

Experience

Essential: One year of experience as a driver with safe driving record. Desirable: Experience working in UN Organization is an asset.

Skills

Possess valid driver's license to drive automobile/minibus. Excellent and up-to-date knowledge of driving and traffic rules and regulations. Excellent knowledge of the layout and streets of duty stations and environs. Skills in motor vehicle mechanics. Results oriented, good interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to act with tact, diplomacy, good judgement, discretion and respect for confidentiality; Ability to discern routine from non-routine; Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team. Adapt to diverse educational and cultural background and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at PGK 28,148 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
