Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has reinforced its presence in Ukraine by signing an agreement with the Government to set up a Project Office that will facilitate and expand the provision of technical and humanitarian assistance to the country’s most vulnerable communities, especially in rural areas.

Ukraine joined FAO in 2003 and since 2015 the Organization has been operating in two strategic directions: emergency humanitarian response in conflict-affected oblasts and agricultural development across the whole country. Following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, FAO has scaled up its activities in the country to support agricultural production and food systems with the aim of protecting the food security of vulnerable households and communities across Ukraine.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the Designated Responsible Officer (DRO) and the direct supervision of the Head of Dnipro office, with close collaboration with other drivers and relevant functional units.

Technical Focus

The Driver will support the operations of FAO’s ongoing work in Ukraine, specifically in the Odesa office (southern oblasts), while working in accordance with FAO’s corporate policies and practices, as well as UNDSS recommendations and protocols, by performing the following duties:

Tasks and responsibilities

• Drive the national and international FAO personnel and official country visitors on official local missions, as necessary; • Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, transportation/vehicle expenditures, repairs, etc. • Ensures day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, etc.; ensures that the assigned vehicle has sufficient gas and is always ready for use; perform minor repairs and timely arrange for any other repairs necessary to keep the car safe and technically sound, and maintain the vehicle in clean conditions; • Ensures availability of all the required document and supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, relevant maps, first aid kit, necessary spare parts; • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident; • Ensures that all organizational and local country rules, security measures and protocols of FAO and UNDSS related to driving and road safety are followed correctly; • Collect and deliver mail, documents, pouches, small procurements, and other items from and to the field office; go to the post office, airport, government agencies, project sites to take and deliver items and communications; ensure accurate record keeping as required; • Provide necessary supports to the personnel and consultants of FAO to undertake field missions such as obtaining security clearance, travel authorization, travel expense claim, vehicle allocation etc.). Accompany FAO experts in the field missions, as needed. • Perform other related duties as requested.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Secondary education, valid driver’s license; • 3 years’ work experience as a driver preferably with UN/NGO; Flawless, safe driving record; • Working knowledge of Russian and Ukrainian. • National of Ukraine

Technical/Functional Skills

• Good knowledge of the local driving rules and regulations; skills in minor vehicle repair. • A high degree of punctuality and reliability is required. • Safe driving manner. Good knowledge of local conditions. • Ability to cope with extended working hours. • Limited knowledge (level B) of English is an advantage.
