Background Information - Pakistan

UNOPS Pakistan (Project Office) is part of the South Asia Multi Country Office in the Asia Region. UNOPS commenced operations in Pakistan in 1999 and significantly up-scaled activities from 2005 onwards to support populations affected by and vulnerable to earthquakes. In 2010, UNOPS opened a permanent office in Islamabad to support the Government of Pakistan and other partners to undertake humanitarian and reconstruction services, following the most devastating flood in the nation’s history. We are operating in KP, Sindh and Punjab and have field offices in Peshawar, Karachi, Umerkot and D.I. Khan.

Supported strategically by a regional operational hub and UNOPS headquarters in Copenhagen and within the overarching framework of the ONE UN Programme, UNOPS Pakistan continues to deliver projects across the country under its core delivery practices of sustainable infrastructure, sustainable procurement, and sustainable project management.

With a steady growth of the project portfolio in recent years and a new strategic direction, UNOPS in Pakistan is currently implementing projects in the following thematic areas: Green and Clean energy; Rule of Law; Health , WASH, Procurement; and HR services.

UNOPS is based in Islamabad with presence in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan managing a wide range of projects including technical WASH support in Umerkot, DI Khan and Tank, procurement of water lab equipment for PHED Punjab and KP, HR services for the WHO polio team and technical trainings for sustainable reconstruction of houses.

The Support Services Unit supervised by the Support Services Manager is based in Islamabad including Administration, Finance, Procurement, ICT and Safety & Security teams.

Under the overall supervision of Senior Administration Associate, the incumbent will report to the Admin Senior Assistant for carrying out the daily tasks as covered in the scope of position.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Provides reliable and secure driving services by
  • a)driving vehicles safely for the transport of authorised personnel and, in the case of peacekeeping/development missions, for the transport of cargo goods and/or hazardous goods vehicles;
  • b) collecting and delivering mail, documents and other items; and
  • c) meeting official personnel at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required.
  • Ensures proper use of vehicles through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensures the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle by checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs; and ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean.
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts.
  • Ensures that immediate steps as required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
  • Follows the safety and security protocols during mission travel, coordination with security focal person for travel NOC, police escort (where required) during field missions.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education& Experience : - Completion of secondary school or equivalent is required; - Drivers training with a valid driver’s licence is required - Two years’ work experience as a driver; safe driving record is required. - Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs is required. - Experience in driving Armored Vehicle is desirable - Ability to work with office machines (photocopier, scanner, printer) is desirable - Basic Knowledge of drafting a document, data entry is desirable - An ideal incumbent should be physically active as the role involves frequent and regular travelling (50-70%) to challenging locations including loading/unloading equipment

Language Requirements: - Working knowledge in written and oral English is required. - Fluency in local languages is desirable
