Background Information - Job-specific

The Office of the Quartet in Jerusalem (OQ) houses a group of programme staff as well as administration and security teams. The OQ is managed by a Head of Mission and a Deputy Head of Mission.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Finance and Operations (DFO), the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to OQ staff members.

The Driver must be prepared to undertake extended hours when operationally required.

Functional Responsibilities

The Driver:

  1. Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services by a) driving office vehicles for the transport of staff members and b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities when required.
  2. Displays safe and highly developed driving skills in all weather conditions and operational environments.
  3. Provides liaison and interpreting capability to support the activities of international staff operations at checkpoints, public venues and premises to enable OQ staff to gain access to venues, liaise with Israeli and Palestinian authorities and civilians.
  4. Collects and delivers mail, documents, and other items from and to the OQ offices from and to various destinations within the area.
  5. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles through timely minor repairs, arrangement for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
  6. Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle by accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs and by provision of inputs to preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  7. Ensure availability and timely replacement of all the required documents, vehicle spares and safety equipment: vehicle insurance, vehicle licenses, service history, vehicle logs, first aid kit, communications, Oil-lubricants, tires and other necessary spare parts.
  8. Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.

Perform any other related duties as may be required from time to time, and as may be assigned by the DFO or his/her designate.

The work is of a highly confidential nature and the Driver must maintain the highest standards of confidentiality.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

  • Education:

  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent is required.

    • Diploma or certification in administration-related subjects or business administration would be an asset

    Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a driver with the UN, diplomatic mission, or international organization

    • Safe driving record
    • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair is highly desired.
    • Previous experience and knowledge of Israel and West Bank roads is highly desired

    Language Requirements:

  • Excellent command of spoken English is required.

    • Fluency in Arabic (Speaking and reading) is required.
    • Fluency in Hebrew is an advantage.

Contract type, level and duration

The contract for this position will be issued by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) on behalf of its Client the Office of Quartet pursuant to an agreement between both parties whereby the successful candidate's contractual rights and responsibilities will be managed by the Office of Quartet (OQ) office and not by UNOPS.
