Overview

Ensure safe transportation and vehicle maintenance for authorized personnel.

You have:

  • Middle level education (at least 8th standard) and a valid drivers' license.
  • At least 2 years' work experience as a driver with a safe driving record.
  • Very good knowledge of driving/traffic rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of topography of the duty station and surrounding areas.
  • Ability to read, write and describe mechanical troubles, skills in minor vehicle repairs.
  • Knowledge of first aid desirable.
  • Knowledge of English and good knowledge of the local language.

Contract

This is a G-2 contract. This kind of contract is known as General Service and related categories. It is normally only for nationals. It usually requires 2 years of experience, depending on education. More about G-2 contracts.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

To provide safe and smooth transportation facilities by adhering to all the applicable rules and regulations.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the overall guidance of NPO (Administrative Services), NO-B, and direct supervision of NPO (Administrative Support), NO-A, the incumbent performs the following duties:

1. Provide transportation of authorized personnel and delivery of various items/commodities, including diplomatic pouches following authorized routing and UN safety and security rules and regulations and report any traffic disruptions or incidents caused by civil unrest.

2. Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport or other entry points and provide basic assistance with visa and customs formalities to facilitate smooth and safe entry.

3. Ensure accurate maintenance of the vehicle log books and daily reporting to the supervisor on mechanical issues status ensuring efficient vehicle use and fuel consumption supporting accurate accounting and cost-efficiency.

4. Maintain the assigned vehicle in a good condition, including all equipment and ensuring that any major mechanical issues are reported to the supervisor. Any regular servicing or maintenance repair work should be monitored both for correctness and for accomplishment on time, as requested.

5. Follow established rules and regulations for driving and deliveries and /or in cases of an accident, ensure that all rules and local requirements are adhered to and report immediately to the supervisor on any apparent problems to seek instructions.

6. Take suitable precautions for the security of the office vehicle and its content when left unattended and ensure office vehicle is properly parked in the designated place during non-working hours.

7. If required, perform basic office related tasks such as filing, photocopying and maintaining stores including delivery/collection of various items, mailing service and payment of bills to ensure administrative support to Country Office.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Middle level education (at least 8th standard). Must possess a valid drivers' license.

Experience

Essential: At least 2 (two) years' work experience as a driver with safe driving record.

Skills

  • Very good knowledge of driving/traffic rules and regulations, knowledge of topography of the duty station and the surrounding areas;
  • Knowledge of protocol courtesies;
  • Tidy appearance, ability to read, write and describe mechanical troubles, skills in minor vehicle repairs,
  • Knowledge of first aid desirable.
  • Ability to read maps and plans.

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at INR 509,843 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
