Organizational Setting

Under the overall guidance of Administrative Officer, Driver works under the direct supervision of the Executive Assistant (Logistics). The first level supervisor in consultation with Administrative Officer guides on non-routine matters and ensures on-going support through on-job training and technical or administrative guidance as relevant. Routine tasks are performed independently within detailed guidelines. Overall supervision is focused on the successful delivery of client oriented and efficient implementation of operational services.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation of authorized personnel and delivery of various items/commodities, including diplomatic pouches;
  • Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport or other entry points and provide basic assistance with visa and customs formalities to facilitate smooth and safe entry;
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of the vehicle log books and daily reporting to the supervisor on mechanical status ensuring efficient vehicle use and fuel consumption supporting accurate accounting and cost-efficiency.
  • Maintain the assigned vehicle clean and in a good condition, including all equipment and ensuring that any major mechanical issues are reported to the supervisor. Any regular servicing or maintenance repair work should be monitored both for correctness and for accomplishment on time, as requested.
  • Follow established rules and regulations for driving and deliveries and security measures enforced by UNDSS, and/or in cases of an accident ensure that all rules and local requirements are adhered to. Report immediately to the supervisor Administrative Officer and Agency Security Focal Point of any traffic movement disruptions, confrontation with mobs, hooligans, and other violent forces etc. to seek instructions;
  • Take suitable precautions for the security of the office vehicle and its contents when left unattended and ensure office vehicle is properly parked in UN designated place during non-working hours.
  • If required, perform basic office related tasks such as filing, photocopying and maintaining stores including delivery/collection of various items, mailing service and payment of bills to ensure administrative support to RSO office.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Work Relations and Partnerships

Driver is constantly providing driving services to the Country Office teams involved in the management of technical programmes and projects as well as at times with external clients who are participating in events. Discussion and communication is encouraged.

Impact of functions

The function plays a key role with respect to the clients served through the delivery of transactional services related to collaborative country programmes.

Qualifications

Education Qualifications

Essential:

  • Middle school level education (8th standard).
  • Must have a valid driving license.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of first aid desirable basic methods in order to be able to assist in case of emergency; Certificate in first aid training
  • Defensive Driving Certification
  • Training in vehicle maintenance;

Experience

Essential: At least two years’ work experience as a driver, with demonstrated safe driving record.

Desirable:

  • Work experience with UN offices, international organizations, embassies or other reputable offices.
  • Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks and other kinds of motorized vehicles.
  • Experience in defensive driving.

Language Skills

Good knowledge of English and excellent knowledge of Myanmar Language.
