The World Bank, a leading multi-lateral institution in global economic development, is currently seeking to recruit a highly qualified candidate for the position of Driver/Messenger at the Mauritania, Nouakchott Office. S/he will work as part of the office car pool and will drive office vehicles for transport of authorized personnel usually within Nouakchott, Mauritania but also in the surrounding countries. S/he will be responsible for the delivery and collection of mail. S/he will report directly to the Resource Management Officer for day-to-day assignments.

Duties and Accountabilities

• Drive teams to Meeting venues and Field trips under high professional attitudes.

• Use tact and professionalism to deliver the Office daily assignments in very good and required conditions, according to World Bank procedures. Use of Road Security and Safety driving requirements to get the staff aboard Bank vehicles feel safe and secured.

• Stay alert and anticipate actions during Senior Management Visits in Mauritania. In case of flight delays, get necessary information from the airport desk and adopt related attitude to wait for the plane schedule or coordinate with the Administration Unit on any further step to go.

• Maintain assigned vehicle clean in good condition, recorded mileage and gasoline consumption Anticipate in any mechanic actions on the assigned official vehicle to prevent any disruption due to unnecessary break downs. From the engine to the pneumatic conditions. For instance, daily inspection of air level in the wheels, oiling for breaks, water level, etc. In sum assure that every single part of the car is in perfect condition for being operated.

• On a daily basis, collect and disseminate all correspondences to Government and other Stakeholders, carry visa requests to relevant Embassies.

• Follow up tax exemptions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and tax exemptions of VAT; as well as registration of vehicles for plate numbers– Conception and Follow up; and ensure close follow up and get appropriate documents back on due course.

• At the Ministries and Embassies, use tack and diplomacy to deal with difficult cases, with close liaison with the Administration, until everything is settled on a timely basis, to help the Office meet all relevant deadlines.

• Any fiduciary tasks the Admin Unit may assign to him.

Selection Criteria

The ideal candidates should have: • A minimum of high school degree (college degree preferable); • An experience of at least 5 years driving with knowledge of auto mechanics; • A good geographical knowledge of Mauritania and other countries in the AWCF1 CMU (Senegal, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Cabo Verde) and the sub region; • A valid document for driving in the sub-region, a driver's license for 4x4 and minibuses, a recent certificate of fitness proving that you are fit to drive; • A training certificate from the Red Cross on first aid would be an asset; • A certificate of training in auto mechanics and any other patent technical training in electronics, electricity would be an asset; • An experience working in an international institution would be an advantage; • Language Requirements: French (spoken and written) knowledge of English would be an asset; • Knowledge of computers - MS Office is desirable.
