Background Information - Job-specific

The UNOPS Hub in Amman implements projects on behalf of UN agencies and bilateral donors and in close coordination with the Government and national authorities. With an established presence across the region, the office runs operations including large-scale procurement, project development, and technical management, and provides financial, human resources, and infrastructure-related services.

The functional objective of UNOPS Hub in Amman is to deliver its projects in an efficient and effective manner and in line with the principles, rules, and regulations of UNOPS, to achieve the outcomes sought by the clients.

The incumbent is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans, and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS.

Functional Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions:

  • Provision of reliable and secure driving services
  • Proper use of vehicle

  • Carry out radio check when required

  • Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle

  • Availability of documents/ supplies
  • Immediate action in case of accident

1. Provides reliable and secure driving services by a) driving office vehicles for the transport of Regional Director/Head of Office, other high-ranking officials and visitors b) collecting and delivering mail, documents and other items; and c) meeting official personnel at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required.

2. Ensures proper use of vehicles through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

3. Ensures the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle by checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs; and ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean.

4. Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts.

5. Ensures that immediate steps as required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.

6. Provides administrative and logistical support:

  • Timely processing of incoming and outgoing mail and documentation; maintenance of the corresponding register and distribution as appropriate;
  • Support to organization of and logistical preparation for field trips, visiting missions, meetings, conferences, workshops, retreats; preparation of logistics arrangements, including circulation of the documentation to be reviewed;
  • Receipt of shipments, customs clearance arrangements.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

a. Education

  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent; drivers training with a valid driver’s license.

b. Experience

  • Three years of work experience as a driver; safe driving record.
  • Experience as a driver with NGO or international organization is desired
  • Valid civilian driver's license is required
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs.

c. Language

  • Fluency in written and oral Arabic is required.
  • Basic knowledge of reading, writing, and speaking English is required.

  2. Contract level: Local ICA Support, level 3
  3. Contract duration: Ongoing ICA – ‘Open-ended, subject to organizational requirements, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.’
