Job Description

Scope and background:

IRC have been present in Ethiopia since 2000 to respond to artificial and natural disasters. IRC is currently operational in five regional states and 24 refugee camps implementing a diverse range of multi-sectoral interventions. IRC currently responds to the needs of vulnerable HHs affected by conflict-induced displacement in Shebelle and Afder Zone and surrounding districts through a multi-sector interventions that address both short and long term needs. Under the program “Emergency life-saving and complimentary assistance to communities affected by draught in Elele and Qohle Woredas of Shebelle and Afder Zone”, IRC intends to implement a multipurpose cash transfer project in the two zone in collaboration with the government, INGOs, and government partners to mitigate the impact of conflict and draught on the most vulnerable households (women, children, old people, and the person with a disability). The project intends to meet both food and non-food needs of the target households and their family members.

Job Overview/ Summary

Driver is responsible to provide transport service to all IRC staff and, visitors to and from assigned destinations and gives relevant assistance in line with transport policy and respective safety rules.

Major key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include:

- Be familiar with and follow the service standard as set out in the transport policy. - Provide timely transport service in a safe and lawful manner at all times. - Adhere to driver and passenger health and safety rules when driving. - Check and carry out daily inspection to ensure the vehicles are fit and safe to drive. - Drive IRC official vehicles on all assigned official businesses and fields trips. - Report to the Line Manager whenever any defect is found on the vehicle. - Maintain and submit a record of all journeys. - Make sure you hold a valid driving license and ensure it remains valid to comply with insurance coverage requirements where needed. - Keep the vehicle clean, tidy and serviceable. - Safe transportation of IRC personnel, materials and care for timely maintenance of IRC vehicles and their accessories. - Deliver letters and documents to the right place at the right time. - The driver is expected to drive in normal mood and mind, not under influence of any type of drug or liquor. - The driver is expected to use safety belt while driving. - The driver is expected not to use mobile phones while driving - The driver is responsible to ensure presence of the following safety equipment and tools in the vehicle:

- First-Aid Kit with necessary medicines

- Necessary tools for simple vehicle maintenance (wheel changing)

- Log sheet pad, passenger liability waiver and travel authorization forms and others, where necessary

- Reserve tire

- Jack

- Fire-extinguisher,

- Plastic sheet and ropes, when appropriate

- The driver is expected to immediately complete and submit incident report and police report in case of accident. - Makes timely request for regular maintenances and for minor maintenances when necessary. - Ensures that seat covers are clean and properly fixed. - Perform other duties given by his supervisor.

Key Competencies

- No road safety-related fines or convictions. - Thorough knowledge of road rules and regulations - Skills in routine vehicle maintenance and minor repair - Knowledge (or ability to quickly learn) of HF, VHF and satellite communications equipment - Team spirit and problem-solving abilities - Able to carry out limited, un-supervised tasks - Drivers must display an attitude and behavior that reflects well on both themselves and the IRC

Expected Deliverables

- Strict adherence to the IRC’s vehicle policies and procedures, including the use of seatbelts by all passengers. - Daily and pre-long distance vehicle checks. Accurate upkeep of the vehicle’s log sheet. - Maintaining the vehicle clean, fuelled and mechanically sound. - Inspecting and maintaining all vehicle accessories. - Advising the Fleet Manager of pending inspections, insurance renewal or any defects or problems.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements

- Secondary School completion and relevant technical training - Valid driving license - Minimum four years’ work experience as a professional driver - Written and spoken English - Able to pass IRC driving test.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

- Basic Computer Skills - Mechanic background.
