OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Administrative Unit manages the entire Country Office's administrative service mechanism and is managing WHO's operational capacity in support of programme delivery. Within the Administrative Unit is a team of drivers who are responsible for ensuring efficient and effective provision of services related to travel/ground transportation within Vientiane and to all provinces of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the direct supervision of the Programme and Administrative Officer (PAO), the incumbent performs the following functions:

  1. Drives the official vehicles of the Organization;
  2. Transports/meets Head of Office, high ranking officials and other official personnel;
  3. Collects and delivers mail and documents when required;
  4. Responsible for keeping his driving license valid and for conforming to the traffic code for meeting all requirements of driving regulations and safety requirements; takes appropriate precautions for the security of the vehicle and its contents when left unattended;
  5. Responsible for day-to-day maintenance and cleanliness of the assigned vehicles, carries out regular check of oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, any malfunctioning, etc.,performs minor repairs and makes arrangement for other repairs;
  6. Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, etc of the vehicle he/she drives;
  7. Ensures that necessary steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case he/she or the vehicle is involved in an accident; and
  8. Provides back-up support to other team members during their absences.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Equivalent to graduation from secondary school with thorough training in driving of automobile/minibus.

Experience

Essential: Two years of experience as a driver with safe driving record. Desirable: Experience working in UN or other International Organization.

Skills

-Possess valid driver's license to drive automobile/minibus.

-Excellent and up-to-date knowledge of driving and traffic rules and regulations.

-Excellent knowledge of the layout and streets of duty stations and environments.

-Skills in motor vehicle mechanics.

-Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at USD 6,231 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
