Organizational Setting

The main aim of FAO Country Office, headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. FAO Kyrgyzstan assists the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic to develop policies, programmes and projects to address the root causes of hunger and malnutrition, to develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. FAO participates in the development and implementation of field projects in the sectors of food security, agriculture and rural development. This requires the integration within the broader framework of sustainable food and agriculture that aims at increasing production and productivity, addressing climate change, and managing natural resources; and enhance rural livelihoods. In this context, the FAO is implementing in collaboration with the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the GCF- funded project “Carbon Sequestration through Climate Investment in Forests and Rangelands (CS-FOR)” (GCP/KYR/020/GCF). Project activities are aligned to the immediate needs, as well as longer term development challenges associated with Agenda 2030 and beyond. The objective is to increase carbon sequestration through supporting climate investments in forests and rangelands and through reducing drivers of degradation and emissions via institutional support, participatory ecosystem-based sustainable management of natural resources and green growth investments. This assignment will contribute to project objective, such as to contribute to the development of a low carbon-emission and climate-resilient economy, while capitalizing important co-benefits from adaptation and disaster risk reduction.

Reporting Lines

Under the direct supervision of the FAO Representative (FEKYR), functional guidance of the AFAOR in the KR, Lead Technical Officer and International Technical Advisor. The driver will be responsible for ensuring of reliable and secure driving services and other relevant tasks as required.

Technical Focus

The Driver will provide safe and reliable driving services to support FAO Programme teams during official missions and field activities. The position will ensure the proper use and day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, compliance with FAO safety and security procedures and traffic regulations, and provision of basic logistical support related to mission travel.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Ensure provision of reliable and secure driving services by a) driving the project official vehicle for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items and b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, visa and customs formalities arrangement as required. • Ensure cost-savings through proper use of the project official vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports. • Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc. • Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts. • Ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents. • Field trips to the project’s sites, particularly to Issyk-Kul and Son-Kul lakes, as required. • Assist the office in making photocopy, small procurement, distributing documents and perform other tasks as required. • Undertake additional duties as reasonably required for smooth progress of the project. • Assist with the loading and unloading of goods as required, ensuring that items are handled carefully and securely. • Work closely with the Project Assistants to ensure coordination of logistics activities, including reporting on delivery progress and any problems encountered during the transport of goods. • To assist the project assistants and brokers with custom clearance procedures.

The employee should pass all mandatory training courses which are required by FAO. VERY IMPORTANT: all staff have to take the mandatory courses within the 1st week of employment

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Completed high school diploma • Valid driver’s license • At least three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a safe driving record • Working knowledge of English language (C1) • National of the Kyrgyz Republic or resident of the country with valid work permit
