Duties and Responsibilities Terms of References Lift Technician GS-4

Background

In order to keep the well being of all elevator users with in ECA compound efficient maintenance service and assigning stand by crew (Lift technicians) is very essential. Therefore, so as to strengthen the number of lift technicians, the need arises to hire additional IC staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the civil works Supervisor (Facilities Management Assistant- Lift Technician), the incumbent is required to perform the following:

I .Services Lifts Monthly by: -

a) Cleaning and lubrication of all mobile and fixed mechanical parts, top and bottom of car platforms, internal and external lift automatic doors, etc. in order to avoid friction. b) Cleans all electrical and electromechanical parts - by using vacuum cleaner, sand paper and contact cleaner, in order to avoid bad electrical flow and checking all electrical and mechanical installations by consulting drawings.

II. Repairs and Replaces Minor Old or Defective parts New Spare Parts:- a) By consulting the electrical circuit drawings and mechanical diagrams, the defective parts are traced and is repaired or replaced by the new. If the nature of the problem is a major type to immediately inform the Sr. Lift Technician.

III. Rescues Passengers Locked In the Lift Cars: - a) Rescues passengers locked in the lift cars due to power interruption or other technical failures, during working on non-working hours with in possible shortest period. b) During odd hours the Incumbent is on stand-by using walkie-talkie and sometimes mobile telephone as communication links. IV. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: High School Diploma is required. Training in operation of lift equipment to is an advantage Experience: Four years of progressive experience directly related to operating lift and lift related equipment. Work experience in the UNECA would be an asset. Language: English and French are the official languages of the United Nations. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required.
