This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

The United Nations collaboratively joins efforts with countries to implement the agenda 2030, with due consideration of the seventeen goals focus on ensuring that “leave no one behind”. The volunteer will support the UNCT to implement the disability and inclusion strategy with a specific focus on the context of Rwanda.

Under the direct supervision of the Partnerships and Development Finance Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  1. Provide support to the coordination of programme activities related to empowering persons with disabilities and promoting their rights • Support strategic thinking around diversity and Inclusion in Rwanda to inform planning and decision making by UN agencies
    • Contribute to the UN in Rwanda’s efforts to implement the global UN disability inclusion strategy • Provide technical inputs to capacity development initiatives for Diversity and Inclusion • Contribute to planning and organizing events and meetings related to Diversity and Inclusion work • Delegated to represent RCO in partnership meetings including those related to Disability and Inclusion

  2. Promote partnership and contribute to resource mobilization for the Disability and Inclusion Task-force • Support documentation of results and analysis of lessons learnt • Support programme and advocacy and awareness raising activities related to diversity and Inclusion • Contribute to the development of project proposals and partnership frameworks on Diversity and Inclusion in Rwanda • Support the implementation of the partnership frameworks established under the Diversity and Inclusion taskforce including the monitoring and accountabilty requirements

  3. Information Management • Interacts closely with other functions of the UNRCO in the production of briefing papers, background notes, talking points, and other advocacy statements • Ensures effective and coherent communications on RCO Diversity and Inclusion Strategy to all concerned, and sees to it that advice and information on cross-cutting issues is coordinat-ed with all relevant components of the UNCT; • Promotes and facilitates the flow of Diversity and Inclusion information between stakehold-ers, oversees the implementation of knowledge management approaches and after-action re-views.

  • National and/or international experience in diversity and inclusion, development areas, resource mobilization, or other relevant programmes;
  • Having worked with UN is an asset or other international development organization;
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in Sustainable Development Goals, working with partners, analytical skills, writing skills and communication;
  • Progressively experience in providing in programme coordination and support Experience in the United Nations system or a comparable international organization and national experience is desirable;
  • Experience with inter-agency or inter-organizational collaboration in the development and diversity and inclusion sectors is desirable

The main entrance of the UNRCO office building is wheel-chair accessible, and at least one-office/workstation, one conference room and one bathroom are wheel-chair accessible. However, the office is not optimally accessible for persons with visual disabilities as signs are not indicated in Braille; alternative printing facilities and assistive technologies are not currently available. For persons with hearing limitations, the RCO and UNCT outsources capacities for sign language interpretation.

REASONABLE ACCOMODATION
