The UNDP Country Programme 2018-2024 is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the National Strategy for Transformation1 (NST1) and has Inclusive and sustainable growth and Transformational Governance for Development as priority areas. Promoting Gender equality, women’s empowerment, social inclusion, and environment sustainability are intrinsic to UNDP development approach. The UNV will support in delivery of UNDP mandate of promoting inclusive and democratic governance, and in its current work that spans from disability inclusion.

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Transformational Governance Unit at UNDP and direct supervision of the National Coordinator for Inclusive Governance at UNDP, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Assist with implementation of disability inclusion activities; • Assist in coordinating partnership and collaboration with implementing partners; • Assist in organising meetings and dialogues with stakeholders in disability inclusion; • Support implementation of current projects portfolio of disability inclusion; • Assist in Monitoring, learning, communication and reporting on activities of ongoing projects in disability inclusion; • Assist in preparation of narrative and financial reports under disability inclusion; • Create and maintain overviews, update data to monitor the progress of disability projects; • Organize monitoring field visits and prepare reports; • Participate in project related meetings, workshops, and other discussions to build understanding of ongoing issues and interests of stakeholders and prepare related reports; • Contribute to research and analysis of disability inclusion projects; • Coordinate project events and ensure they are widely communicated through press releases, media interviews, website publications and other means of communication to raise public awareness and branding of project interventions. Websites, project publications, mass media contents should be prepared and regularly updated for internal and external audiences; • Together with UNDP communications team, coordinate and produce regular broadcast materials including, videos, audio pieces, documentary films, newsletters, brochures and ensure they are aired and published in media outlets for increased awareness of project interventions and results • Assist in establishing strong working relationship with different media groups on disability inclusion and assist in ensuring that the media and public have access to information on the work of UNDP on disability inclusion. • Assist in developing communication tools to ensure effective communication of projects and interventions on disability inclusion to reach a wider audience. • Maintain a strong social media communication strategy to communicate disability inclusion intervention results; • Provide support to the implementation of programme activities related to empowering persons with disabilities and promoting their rights Contribute to planning, budgeting, reporting and evaluation processes within the framework of the disability platform Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible. • Contribute to the UNDP country office efforts to implement the global UN disability inclusion strategies

Previous experience in managing project related to disability inclusion, inclusive governance, human rights, gender equality.

Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, has undergone an incredible period of rejuvenation and stability that is clearly visible the moment you step out into this beautiful city. Concerning transport, even though motorcycle taxis are not recommended, they are the fastest way to get around this metropolis. Helmets are provided, but it is better to have your own helmet. You can also take a standard taxi. Those with a yellow stripe will be run by individuals, while the majority will belong to either Kigali Taxi Service (3122) or Kigali Airport Taxis (476586). Public transportation is the cheapest way to get around Kigali, and many of the buses are new and well-maintained. You can also take these buses farther afield; expect to pay a fare based on distance. Transport prepaid cards are available for passengers at each bus station, and you can load a minimum amount of two hundred Rwandan francs (200RWF). If public transport isn’t your style, cars are available for rent or purchase in Kigali. Major investment has been made in infrastructure, including roads, and congestion in this city has never been particularly bad. Accommodations are found easily and at the relevant standards and recreation infrastructures (swimming pools, aerobics, etc…) can be found in the various places. Shops and markets are available with necessary items including imported goods, home furnishings and electrical appliances and vehicles spare parts. Public and private health facilities are available in Kigali and some of them such as King Faisal Hospital, Legacy Clinic, Hôpital la Croix du Sud, etc …work with CIGNA insurance. The above Hospitals have necessary health equipment; ambulances, adequate health services and can handle any emergency.

Kigali is an exceptionally safe city. However, in case of emergency, there are several emergency numbers in Kigali, so be sure to know which to call.
