Overview

Develop and implement a disability inclusion strategy for UN in Fiji.

You have:

  • Masters in political science, sociology, international relations, law, public administration, or other related social sciences is required.
  • In lieu of an advanced degree, a Bachelor University degree in a relevant field will be accepted.
  • Preference will be given to People Living with Disabilities who meet the above requirements.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Result of Service

• Develop an implementation, monitoring and evaluation plan for the Strategy for the Fiji MCO and support its implementation beyond the pilot phase. The implementation plan will prioritize inclusion in UN operations. • Disability Inclusion Strategy implementation plan and follow up activities initiated in phase I, i.e., accessibility audit, OMT, UNCG and staff training. • Provide training on disability inclusion to UNCT and staff. • Monitor and follow up with UNCT agencies on actions to address UN premises accessibility audit recommendations. • Provide updates to the HRTG and UNCT on key disability inclusion initiatives related to the implementation plan being undertaken by UN agencies at the national level. • Provide Secretariat services to the UNCT Disability Inclusion Working Group (DIWG) and serve as secretariat responsible for organizing events, planning meetings, record and disseminate minutes and provide technical advice and assistance to UNCT • Report and follow the UNCT HRTG and DIWG meetings and ensure follow up on the implementation plan. • Mainstream disability in all UNCT planning documents. • Track and report the UNDIS and UNSDCF accountability framework, scorecard and activities. • Monitor progress of UN premises accessibility audit recommendations. • Collect good practices and lessons learned for use by other UNCTs in the Pacific (Micronesia, Samoa) and globally • Initiate disability advocacy and communication efforts, in collaboration with the UNCG to promote the international day for persons with disabilities on 3 December. • Identify opportunities where the UN can have better partnerships with OPD’s by designing MOU’s and building on the existing UNCT partnership agreement, as they relate to the implementation plan

Duties and Responsibilities

The Disability Inclusion Consultant will report directly to the Head of Office, RCO, and will be responsible for the following: 1. Develop the implementation, monitoring and evaluation action plan for Disability Inclusion, and report progress to HRTG and the Disability Inclusion Working Group (DIWG). 2. Provide strategic support to the DIWG in the development of a disability inclusion network with external stakeholders, enhancing the partnerships between UN and National and Regional OPDs, and promoting the visibility of UN efforts on disability mainstreaming.

Qualifications/special skills

Masters in political science, sociology, international relations, law, public administration, or other related social sciences. In lieu of an advanced degree, a Bachelor University degree in a relevant field. People Living with Disabilities who meet the above minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with two years of experience will be given preference.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
