Disability inclusion is a cross-cutting development issue that has an impact across the development sphere. UNDP has an integration role to support achievement of the SDGs and works across sectors, building capacities of institutions and governments to promote sustainable development, and fulfilling the commitment of the SDGs to leave no-one behind. With an estimated 650 million people in Asia and the Pacific living with disability, or some 15% of the population, ensuring the full inclusion and participation of persons with disability in all aspects of development is an urgent priority for the region and for UNDP. The Disability Inclusion and Empowerment Specialist will support the empowerment of persons with disability, in particular through the development of initiatives on legal empowerment of young persons with disability, and strengthening disability inclusion within UNDP’s regional Youth portfolio and its broader Regional Program for Asia and the Pacific.

Under the direct supervision of Governance and Peacebuilding Team Leader, with dotted re-porting line to the Youth and Civil Society Specialist, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Manage the database of PwD initiatives mapping, and consolidate the key information in presentations. • Support the design and development of Leave No One Behind Startup Support programme dedicated to PwD social enterprises. • Support the design and implementation of initiatives for legal empowerment of young people with disability and climate justice for young people with disability • Strengthen disability inclusion across UNDP’s regional governance and peacebuilding portfolio and across UNDP’s Regional Program for Asia and the Pacific • Coordinate exchanges between relevant stakeholders and UNDP country teams for sharing best practice and lessons learned. • Develop learning modules for youth communities and ecosystem enablers on PwD engagement.
• Strengthen the engagement of youth with disabilities to ensure disability inclusive planning and action in the context of climate change.

law, social sciences, international development, or other relevant disciplines

• Previous experience with disability-inclusive development is an asset, particularly in relation to youth empowerment, access to justice, human rights and/or governance. • Previous assignment in a similar position would be desirable. • Previous experience in youth development initiative is preferred. • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels.
