Background

Drawing on the diversity of UNDP’s client needs and partnerships, the Office of Human Resources (OHR) is the hub for the global HR function for UNDP, providing strategy, policy setting, guidance and oversight. In addition, OHR provides a broad range of HR advisory and talent management services enabling UNDP to deliver fully integrated development solutions at corporate level. In this context, OHR is focused on the implementation of an ambitious and forward-looking three-year strategy, People for 2030, which will progressively transform UNDP’s culture and enable its workforce capacity to deliver more and better results.

Through People for 2030, OHR aims to be at the leading edge of HR in the international development sector by developing high quality and innovative human resources solutions and driving transformation across UNDP. In this context, OHR is seeking an intern to support the design and implementation of the organizational efforts in advancing the diversity and inclusion agenda, with a special focus on the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the workplace.

Full or part-time for 3-6 months, the internship requires creativity, enthusiasm to learn, and motivation to empower persons with disabilities in the workplace.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Support the communications activities for the launch of the eLearning Course Disability Inclusion: Building an Inclusive and Accessible United Nations focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Support the roll-out of a communications plan to raise awareness about the new eLearning course on disability inclusion.
  • Coordinate launch event with inter-agency partners and other important stakeholders.

2. Support UNDP Country Offices with the deployment of UN Volunteers under the framework of the UNDP-UNV Talent Programme for Young Professionals with focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Coordinate disability awareness and experience sharing sessions with UNDP Country Offices.
  • Update the SharePoint on Disability Inclusion with the latest resources.

3. Support the development of the proposal to streamline disability inclusion across UNDP young talent streams focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Collect information from colleagues with disabilities to shape the final proposal.
  • Provide editorial support to complete the final proposal.

4. Support the diversity outreach to attract of a larger talent pool from underrepresented groups focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
  • Build networks and partnerships to harness good practices from within UNDP and outside the organization.

5. Plan activities in celebration of the international day of persons with disabilities on 3 December focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Plan activities in partnership with our networks of persons with disabilities.
  • Coordinate efforts with other UN agencies.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Applicants to UNDP internships must at the time of application meet one of the following academic requirements:

  • (a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • (c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:

  • Previous work experience would be advantage but not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of accessibility and assistive technology would be an asset.
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages would be necessary.

Language** Requirements:**

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Other languages would be an asset.

General Internships Terms & Conditions

  • UNDP Internship programme is governed by the UNDP Internship Policy Framework & Rules.
  • Under the new revised UNDP Internship Policy, UNDP will provide a modest monthly internship stipend to its interns, in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP Internship policy. All expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern or her/his sponsoring entity/institution. Stipends are available only for full-time/on-site internships at this time.
  • Selected Interns must be able to share proof of education enrolment and/ or graduation, medical/health and life/accident insurance, valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out and be able to provide insurance documentary proof at the time of their selection.
  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an Intern’s studies and learning growth. There is no expectation of employment at the end of these internships.
