Contract

This is a Professional contract (NRC) contract. More about Professional contract (NRC) contracts.

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian organisation helping people forced to flee. We work in crises across more than 31 countries, providing emergencies and long-term assistance to millions of people every year. We stand up for people forced to flee, advocating their rights. NORCAP, our global provider of expertise, helps improve international and local ability to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from crises. NRC also runs the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre in Geneva, a global leader in reporting on and advocating for people displaced within their own country.

Employment with NRC may lead to employment in or deployment to Regions, Countries, Areas or Offices that may be host to considerable health, safety and security risks. NRC takes this very seriously and we have procedures in place to reduce known risks, but will never be able to take away all risks.

NRC is an equal opportunities employer and aims to have staffing diversity in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, nationality and physical ability.

An exciting opportunity to further develop the strategic engagement with institutional partners, including the main donors, of a leading international humanitarian NGO.

What we are looking for

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is seeking a highly qualified and dynamic Director of Institutional Partnerships. The Director of Institutional Partnership is part of the management team of the Partnerships and Policy department and reports to the Executive Director. The Department’s role is to lead, manage, support and set standards for NRC's global advocacy work and partnerships with institutional donors, define NRC’s positions on key humanitarian policy issues, establish and manage strategic partnerships with UN agencies and NGOs, and consolidate and further develop NRC’s Representation Offices and the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC).

As Director of Institutional Partnerships, you will be responsible for the development of NRC’s global strategy, policies and procedures related to fundraising from and engagement with institutional donors and other key partners. NRC has a diverse donor base of more than 40 institutional donors, with the Norwegian MFA, USAID BHA, ECHO, UNHCR, OCHA, German FFO and Sida among the largest partners.

What you will do

  1. Overall responsible for strategy development and positioning regarding existing institutional donors, as well as new and non-traditional donors. This includes further developing NRC’s strategy for diversifying its donor base and expanding its capacity to secure and deliver large-scale grants, commercial contracts and lead consortia. Provide strategic guidance to enhance synergies across partnerships with key donors and identify innovative ways to build new partnerships.
  2. Overall responsible for the NRC‘s global support function related to institutional donors. This includes, for example, developing and defining policies, guidelines and procedures and ensuring that efficient systems are in place for timely and relevant advice and support to NRC staff, including on donor regulations and compliance.
  3. Technical reporting line from all the Institutional Partnership Advisers in the Partnerships and Policy Department for the purpose of further streamlining NRC’s approaches, practices, processes, tools, standards, training and regular information sharing on relations with institutional donors and related areas.
  4. Drive the department’s work to streamline and simplify internal administrative and compliance procedures for partnerships with national and local actors and lead NRC’s advocacy with donors to promote policies and procedures that facilitate more equitable partnerships.
  5. Provide the overall direction for NRC’s relations with any institutional donors not explicitly falling under the responsibility of any of the Institutional Partnership Advisers.
