The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster.

Its External Relations (ER) department was created in early 2020 and is comprised of three complementary functional areas: Private Fundraising, Communications and Advocacy – functions that work together to enhance IRC’s ability to ‘punch above its weight’ in private income, advocacy, and brand awareness.

The International Philanthropy and Partnerships (IPP) team leads on the Organization’s engagement with corporations, foundations, international philanthropists globally, as well as IRC’s efforts in new funding streams (Faith-based; Donor-Advised Funds; Innovative Financing et al).

Job Overview/Summary: -------------------------

IPP comprises of four pillars headed by a Senior Director reporting into the VP of International Philanthropy and Partnerships:

1. Global Corporate Partnerships;

2. Global Foundations and Trusts;

3. International Philanthropy;

4. Global Leads New Funding Streams.

IPP is accountable for more than 60% of IRC’s annual private-sector revenue. It comprises of fundraisers based in various markets and territories around the world, and today, constitutes the largest private-sector fundraising team at the IRC in both scope and scale.

IPP’s Global Corporate Partnerships pillar comprises approximately 20 front-facing fundraisers that specialize in engagement with the corporate sector. The team is currently organized predominantly in industries and sectors (pharma/healthcare; financial services; technology et al) and they are accountable for ~35% of IPP’s annual revenue.

A key driver of the team’s success includes the retention, renewal and expansion of IPP’s existing global strategic corporate alliances. The salary for this position is maximum 90,000 GBP based on experience and internal equity.

The role: -------------

We are looking for a senior business relationship manager who will lead our work and efforts with our existing global strategic alliances- which account for close to 70% of the total corporate income.

We have built an impressive track record of sustainable income growth for the past few years, managing partnerships with major companies around the world. In 2020 alone, we raised more than $30M with ambitious plans for growth going forward.

This year represents Year 4 of IPP’s Growth Strategy with bold plans to increase the range and number of our partnerships within the private sector, taking account of the way in which business is redefining its role in delivering social impact. Our vision is to be the partner of choice for the world’s leading companies.

The Director, Global Strategic Alliances (Account Management) would be responsible for the deepening, retention and expansion of our strategic relationships with our most notable existing partners around the world spanning across a plethora of different sectors.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned, global relationship manager and leader, with a track record of both leading teams in the successful execution of global corporate partnerships, as well as personally managing, deepening and growing strategic partnerships with multinationals around the world at the 6 and 7-level figure.

S/he must be well-placed to inspire, design and implement a team vision to grow holistic, 360-degree corporate partnerships across various business sectors as well as geographies in support of IRC’s global programs around the world and in line with the aspirational growth the department has set out for itself. In addition to financial revenue in support of the IRC and its global impact, these partnerships also would include innovative engagement on operational (shared-value partnerships), gifts-in-kind, pro-bono consulting services, employee engagement, et al.

A successful candidate will have excellent team leadership skills, as well as proven experience in building and growing dynamic, high-value corporate partnerships, and will demonstrate passion for the IRC's mission, nuanced understanding of private sector fundraising, and dedication to the organization's diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Major Responsibilities: ---------------------------

- Leads the Global Strategic Alliances (Account Management) team in the successful execution of a multi-year, long-term growth strategy across sectors, geographies and portfolios. Encourages, guides and mentors staff under their supervision to achieve their individual and collective targets. - Drives and develops IPP’s global corporate strategy for the retention, expansion and deepening of IRC’s largest existing strategic partners with the objective of attaining sustainable growth with those partners. - Collaborates with various colleagues across the team, particularly those focused on the identification, cultivation and securing of new relationships and business to determine and complete best-in-class workflows and systems for growth. - Remains up to date with the latest trends on global relationship management across industries and sectors, with a particular focus on financial services, healthcare, technology, and consumer-facing partnerships to include gaming, consumer package goods, travel and media- sectors within which IPP maintains invaluable strategic alliances. - Sets and embodies a top-notch, best-in-class account management culture, drive and execution within the wider corporate, and by extent the IPP team. Speaks on behalf of, and for, the unique characteristics, opportunities and challenges associated with the principles of account management in the corporate fundraising sphere. Foster an environment that supports new insights and innovative approaches to partnership development and relationship management; - Provides dynamic and effective thought leadership for the Global Corporate Partnerships team’s efforts towards increased financial and non-financial engagement with business, to further the IRC’s mission, inclusive of operational partnerships, gifts-in-kind, employee engagement, advocacy, and thought leadership with the private sector. - Act as an inspiring leader within IPP- teaming up with the other IPP Directors, in maintaining, cultivating and developing a best-in-class global fundraising team across corporates, foundations and individuals, in support of IPP’s and IRC’s income aspirations. - Lead and support the IPP team’s efforts by personally cultivating and soliciting high-level, high-impact partnerships that call for a level of seniority/technical competence where director-level participation is relevant and appropriate - Support the team’s and organization’s DEI efforts through development of multi-faceted partnerships that benefit a wide range of clients with varying backgrounds. - Collaborate across the High Value Fundraising teams on initiatives that span departments, to include but not be limited to our joint dedication to a diverse, positive and inclusive work environment - Collaborate with the Global Philanthropy and Partnership Services (GPPS) team, also led by the VP, IPP, on the conceptualization, development and implementation of standards, tools and procedures towards an outstanding approach to international private sector engagement and fundraising;

Key Working Relationships: ------------------------------

You will report to: Senior Director, Global Corporate Partnerships, IPP (interim – to the VP, IPP/GPPS);

Your position directly supervises: at present 4 direct reports.

Essential Qualifications: -------------------------

- Bachelor’s Degree. Advanced University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Communications, International Relations, Finance or other field relevant to the IRC; - Extensive experience in the corporate sector fundraising and partnership space; particularly in managing corporate fundraisers in a similar scope/scale of portfolio, organizational size and team; - Management experience in guiding, leading and motivating a successful, complex team. Global experience is highly desirable. - Direct experience with corporate partnerships and fundraising techniques, including acquiring financial support for projects and securing large donations. Desirable: tangible achievements in the account management space. - Consistent record of negotiating and securing seven figure plus corporate partnerships; - Understanding of how to reconcile the needs of an organization with those of the private sector partner; - Demonstration of creativity and problem solving in working with corporate partners; - Ability to explain sophisticated issues to donors and prospects and present the organization in an engaging and concise manner. - Good understanding of the challenges and issues faced by field offices; - Excellent digital literacy (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, etc.); - Excellent communication skills with good interpersonal and negotiation skills; - Knowledge and curiosity about humanitarian/international development work.
