Overview

Support the Consumer Information Programme in digital innovation for Product sustainability.

You have:

  • Post Graduate Degree (Masters level or above) in relevant fields or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of five years of project/programme management experience related to circular economy, climate change, and/or sustainable development.
  • Experience in digital technologies and innovation related to circular economy, climate change, or sustainable development is required.
  • Strong understanding of the digital innovation space, including knowledge of transmission of data along value chains.
  • Experience in drafting reports based on consultation with a diverse range of stakeholders is desirable.
  • Familiarity with data architecture and metadata standards for environmental and product life-cycle information is desirable.
  • Experience working in an international, multi-cultural setting is desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of other UN languages is desirable.

Result of Service

The Digitalization and Sustainability Specialist will support the Consumer Information Programme efforts in the area of digital innovation for Product sustainability Information (https://www.codes.global/resources/digitalization-for-circular-economy-initiative) through the (1) development of the Global framework for DPIS, (2) coordination with internal and external partners through the consumer information programme.

Remote - Preference for Paris based consultant

Expected duration

12 months, starting 1 September 2025

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant will: • Support the drafting of the Global Framework for DPIS • Provide technical oversight and guidance during pilot projects on DPIS, reviewing and validating key outputs. • Support to develop additional pilot projects. • Organize and deliver consultations to collect stakeholder feedback for the global framework. • Revise the draft Global Framework based on feedback received from all regional and technical consultations. • Organize and facilitate the regular coordination meeting of D4CE Initiative co-leads. • Finalize the sectoral implementation standard for submission under the ITU process, incorporating stakeholder feedback. • Liaise with key internal and external partners, to link relevant agendas with DPIS (EPR, chemicals, critical minerals etc…) • Any other tasks as assigned by the team.

Qualifications/special skills

Post Graduate Degree (Masters level or above) in international affairs, international development, international law, environmental governance, information technology, economics, social science or related field. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. • A minimum of five years of project/programme management experience related to circular economy, climate change, and/or sustainable development, including at least two working in the space of digital technologies and innovation related to those fields, is required. • Strong understanding of the digital innovation space, including knowledge of transmission of data along value chains (e.g. through the use of digital product passports) is required. • Experience in drafting reports based on consultation with a diverse range of stakeholders is desirable. • Familiarity with data architecture and metadata standards for environmental and product life-cycle information is desirable. • Experience working in an international, multi-cultural setting is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN languages are desirable.
