Overview

Design and produce digital and graphic materials for disaster risk reduction initiatives.

You have:

  • First level university degree in Graphic Design, Communication Science or related fields is required.
  • At least 7 years of experience in digital and graphic design.
  • Experience in layout design in printed and digital assets is desirable.
  • Experience in animation creation and audiovisual postproduction is desirable.
  • Fluency in Spanish is required.
  • Knowledge of English is desirable.

Result of Service

Digital and graphic design: 1. Design and layout a wide range of print and digital materials, including fact sheets, brochures, report booklets, social media graphics, and event-related assets, following the brand guidelines of UNDRR and DIPECHO LAC; 2. Edit and design communication materials that support the promotion of the Caribbean Safe Schools Initiative; 3. Design graphic assets to promote the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) partners' thematic group meetings; 4. Design graphic assets to promote the Regional Assessment Report on Disaster Risk in Latin America and the Caribbean 2024 (RAR24) Special Report on Humanitarian and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Funding; 5. Edit and adapt document layouts for translation into Spanish and other languages used in the Americas and the Caribbean region; 6. Conduct post-production of audiovisual materials as needed; 7. Ensure the consistent application of UNDRR brand guidelines across all creative and graphic outputs

Duties and Responsibilities

Background Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 150 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyzes, and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action, and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk by working with the U.N. Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians, and the science and technology community. Duties and Responsibilities The consultancy will support the information and communication activities of the UNDRR Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, with a primary focus on digital and graphic design related to the products, events, and outreach efforts of the Preparedness Project for the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Office - Latin America and the Caribbean (DIPECHO - LAC). The individual contractor will be home-based and will report to the Communication and Public Information Assistant in the UNDRR regional office for the Americas and the Caribbean. The individual contractor main responsibility will be to produce high-quality graphic design materials, including documents, flyers, social media assets, fact sheets, cards, invitations, and audiovisual products. Technical guidance for this position will be provided by the UNDRR Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, under the supervision of the Information and Communication Assistant.

Qualifications/special skills

First level university degree in Graphic Design, Communication Science or related fields is required. At least 7 years of experience in digital and graphic design. Experience in layout design in printed and digital assets is desirable. Experience in animation creation and audiovisual postproduction is desirable. Experience in the Americas and the Caribbean is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy fluency in Spanish is required. Knowledge of English is desirable.
