What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose of the position

As the digital services business analyst within DTD (Digital Transformation and Data office), you will support, under the responsibility of the DTD Chief of Staff, the analysis of possible new digital services the ICRC could provide to its external partners and beneficiaries. This analysis will be done in partnership with internal stakeholders, such as Operations and its various métiers, Technology & Information and the RedSafe platform within DTD. The analysis shall cover from the discovery phases to the business case development allowing to make informed decision on the way forward for each identified service.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Discovery of new digital service:

    • Interact with internal stakeholders to identify potential digital services the ICRC could provide: REM (Resource mobilization), MOUV (Movement coordination), OPS (Operations), LOG (Logistic), T&I (Technology & Information)
    • Animate a transversal working group comprised of HQ and Field representatives to discuss the identified opportunities
    • Documents findings in order to define way forwards
  • Development of the detailed analysis and feasibility study for identified digital services:

    • Business requirements
    • Service type, scope and impact
    • Support model options definition (in partnership and as per T&I strategy)
    • Financial aspects
  • Contribute to challenging the proposed new services by testing its applicability in various scenario testing mechanisms

  • Steers the overall thinking process to positioning the ICRC as the leading humanitarian organization in the cyber environment providing digital services.
  • Contributes to achieving institutional (and DTD) objectives 5 of the strategy (embrace digital transformation)

Education required

  • University/Master’s degrees or equivalent
  • Fluent in English and in French. Other languages are considered to be an asset

Experience required

  • Typically, 10+ years’ overall professional experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience working within the humanitarian sphere
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in business analysis

Desired profile and skills

  • Strong understanding of the humanitarian system and trends affecting/impacting the humanitarian sphere in the cyberspace
  • Proven ability to make solid and realistic recommendations
  • Good knowledge of the IT world and technologies applied to humanitarian action
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Digitally savvy, data literate and computer proficient
  • Organized, structured, disciplined and results-oriented
  • Able and willing to work in a transversal way across organizational boundaries
  • Enthusiastic about driving positive impact for people in need of the ICRC
  • Willingness to experiment and try new things and learn quickly from failure and/or mistakes
  • Ability and willingness to adapt quickly as the humanitarian and technology landscapes continue to evolve
