STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences or other field relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

National Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language and the duty station’s language, if different.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Headquarters (HQ), Regional Bureaux (RBs) or Country Offices (COs) and job holders report to a more senior Programme Policy Officer. Job holders are likely to be working under the close support and guidance of a more experienced professional staff member receiving guidance and regular feedback on work performed. They are typically involved in programme or policy activities or similar nature and analytical work of limited complexity.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide support to policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Support the implementation of the microinsurance pilot project in 2021.
  2. Support the implementation of a strategy to scale-up the microinsurance product in the context of the holistic risk financing strategy of Guatemala
  3. Integrate the microinsurance initiative into a digital and technological innovation strategy promoted by WFP and partners.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

    • Interest and some previous experience in insurance, financial inclusion, disaster management, climate change, environmental protection, risk financing, innovation or development projects
    • Excellent analysis and computer skills, capacity to analyze and consolidate quantitative and qualitative data,
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish. Other UN languages are considered as an asset.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment;
    • Ability to work well under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines.
