Job organizational context: UNICEF’s West and Central Africa Regional Office (WCARO) based in Dakar, Senegal, is looking for a Digital Community Manager to support communication efforts ahead of, and during the upcoming Girls Summit to be held in October 2025.
How can you make a difference?
Purpose for the job: The Digital Community Manager will be responsible for supporting UNICEF WCARO digital communication work related to the upcoming Girls Summit, an event aiming to contribute to a regional movement for girls’ rights and establish a regional agenda. Specifically, the Digital Community Manager will work under the guidance and supervision of the Communications section, with support of other sections, of the Regional Office to develop, coordinate and implement UNICEF WCARO's digital communication plan for the Girls’ Agenda and Summit with an eye to post-Summit mobilization on girls’ rights, and lead the production of digital content such as social media cards, videos and others as needed.
Key functions, accountabilities and related duties/tasks:
- Developing and implementing community engagement strategies that align with the UNICEF and the Regional Girls’ Agenda.
- Developing a visual identity for Adolescent Girls’ Rights in WCA, in collaboration with regional networks and an adolescent girls’ advisory group.
- Managing and growing UNICEF WCARO’s online community presence across various social media platforms.
- Fostering a positive and inclusive online community environment, encouraging active participation and interaction.
- Monitoring and responding to followers’ inquiries, comments and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborating with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and alignment.
- Analysing follower metrics and trends to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
- Organising and hosting virtual events or webinars to engage and connect with our audience.
- Creating, curating and managing content (including posts, videos, webinars, etc.) for online platforms, ensuring it is relevant, engaging and aligned with the UNICEF’s brand voice.
- Identifying and cultivating relationships with key followers and influencers to foster loyalty and advocacy.
- Staying updated on industry trends, best practices and emerging platforms to continually enhance community engagement strategies.
Impact of Results:
Through strategic use of UNICEF’s digital platforms, the Digital Community Manager will achieve a) online visibility and engagement on the summit by key audiences such as girls’ groups, partners, influencers, b) increased online advocacy through galvanized reach of key messages pertaining to girls rights in the region, c) full social media coverage of the summit with peak engagement using event hashtags, and d) West and Central African adolescent girls, their rights and their voices are front and centre in UNICEF’s digital communication efforts at key moments.

Education: A university degree in one of the following fields is required: Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of two years of professional experience in Digital Community or in a similar is required.
- Strong understanding of online community platforms, social media tools and analytics.
- Proven experience in implementing time limited projects.

Language Requirements: Fluency in English and French is required. Excellent drafting skills as well as oral presentation skills. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

- Strong grasp of the situation of girls in WCA, and linkages to girl-centered groups across the region is considered as an asset.
